My Husband is in the Hospital

Early this morning, I had to rush my husband to the hospital. We thought he was having a heart-attack, but now it appears he may have had a pulmonary embolism, which is a blood clot in the lungs. Our daughters who live on the West Coast, as well as our four oldest grandchildren, are all coming together to be here for the next few days and spend time with me and my husband. I am so glad for their support. However, as a result of everything which is going on, I may not be on MyLot very much for the next few days. Thanks, everyone, for your understanding. I'll be back in touch when things settle down.

Oh my..dangerous and life threatening. I hope he can get straightened out. My uncle had one about a year and a half ago..he seems to be doing pretty well these days..so he will probably recover just fine.

@DeborahDiane maybe he is a pacemaker candidate? Glad he is home.

@snowy22315 - I'm not sure about a pacemaker, but they may implant a heart monitor under his skin. He is home now, but we are both exhausted. They are going to continue to monitor his heart and in a couple of weeks they will insert a wireless monitor under his skin so that the hospital can monitor even while he is home. It turned out that he has angina, Afib, and an irregular heartbeat that sometimes stops briefly. They can't give him blood thinners because of his low platelet count, so they just want to be able to monitor him wirelessly. It's a scary situation, but we'll just have to live with it.

@amadeo - We live just 10 minutes from the hospital and I felt it would be quicker to take him there myself than wait 10 minutes for the paramedics to get there. However, he was able to walk, crouched over, to the car. If he could not have done that, we would have waited for an ambulance.

I'm sorry that your husband is in the hospital, but it is good to hear that you raised your daughters right and that they are at your side supporting you both. I'll keep his health condition in my prayers, and you in my thoughts. Don't you overdo it, let your daughters help you when they can, that's what you would have done, now its their turn.

@DianneN - As far as I know, the device will only monitor his heart, but it will wirelessly send reports all day and night to his doctors. If there is a problem, they can contact us to have him come in for whatever intervention they think is appropriate. That will be a relief to know that he is being monitored from home, just as thoroughly as if he were still in the hospital.

@DeborahDiane You must be so relieved that he is home and that they figured out his problems. Will the device do anything other than allow monitoring? Hugs to you. You and your family must have been frantic with worry. I'm also glad that my prayers worked and will continue praying.

@ridingbet - He is 74 and does not have a physical job. He does take a variety of medications, but they are limited in what they can do because of all his different ailments.
• Laguna Woods, California
5 Jan 19
@ridingbet - They cannot put him on any blood thinners because of his low platelet level. It turned out not to be an embolism, but angina, Afib, and skipped heartbeats. I hope it doesn't happen again!

@DeborahDiane oh, really? the angina, is he given pills to relieve chest pains? i hope he does not do strenuous work. having a heart ailment makes one always rest on bed without bathroom privileges. (CBR w/o BRP's).

@nela13 - He is not doing very well. He has slept almost all day. We got up at 7:30 this morning and by 10:30 he was back in bed, taking a nap. After lunch, he took another two hour nap and this evening he is asleep again. I don't think that is very good at all. I hope they figure out what is wrong.

@nela13 - They say they can tell that he is not getting enough oxygen to his heart, but they cannot figure out why. His lungs appear to be clear and his heart seems to be working correctly, but something is broken down in between and they are trying to figure out what it is. I hope they figure it out soon.
