When being helpful costs you time and money .....

I was out shopping this morning and bumped into a lady whose children I taught when I worked at my previous school . The children are grown now and working themselves. We had a nice chat and as I was coming home I remembered something that had happened years before when her children were still at the school. When my Dad was still at work he used to give me a lift to work ( and then I would catch the bus home at the end of the day )...one morning we saw a car that had broken down ...as we were driving past I recognised the driver.....a mother from my school ...I could see the two children were sitting in the back of the car … We stopped to see if there was anything we could do … This was in the early days of people having mobile phones....she had not got one but my Dad had …..so we said ring your husband on this and he can make arrangements with a garage to have you picked up or can come himself …. Anyway ….to cut a long story short …. she actually made four phone calls...to her husband...to the garage ...to her Mum ….to her work …. It used a lot of Dads credit and made both myself and him late for work …… We do try to be helpful but are more careful now ….

Maybe she didn't realise how much it was costing you. If she did, it was pretty rude.

Im afraid she did ...we kept asking for the phone back ….showing her our watches and saying Dad would take me and the children to school but she just would not listen …..short of actually taking the phone from her hand we couldn't do anything ! ...In the end there was no thank you either ….

I think more helpful you be to others. people tend to take advantage of you.

What a rude lady, should have been happy you proposed to call her husband, thank you and let you go.
