My son turns one on January 1st and I was wondering should I throw him a birthday party. I know some people they say no because it's a waste of money and he's not going to remember it... but I think I will feel a little better if I do just to honor that he made it through his first year of life...... Should he have a birthday party for him?

I agree..
On my son 1st b'day, we invite all family to have dinner together. And we pray, give thanks to Lord for this one wonderful year.

I would say a small family gathering, just so you can look back on teh first year, but no fuss or ballons or games, as you say he's a bit small for that. Maybe get the grandparents round for dinner instead.

Yea, why not. You could invite your family over and have cake and icecream. Im sure even if he doesnt know whats going on he will be able to tell by everyones attitude what a special day it is. Even if he doesnt remember, you will!

yes i think one should definitely go for it, i had done it in a very great way, i mean it was a grand party, so what if he should remember or not, today is the new technology era and every one makes a movie of such functions and he will see when he will get younger, and also now you are doing this for your happiness and not his.

If you have a little house why not go to a park with him and family.....a nice picnic area that way...everyone brings a plate of food for a bbq....you supply cake and eeryone has a good time....esc.if other family has kids they can play..
If you go to a playgroup take a cake there and all her little friends can eat some....
childcare same thing....
but I understand about timing for her poor thing....2 out of 3 of my kids are just before xmas one is xmas eve....and the other the 14.....my eldest will be 5 and I have to try and find the time to get a party in before preschool breaks up...
what ever you decide just not too long 1-2 hrs tops...

I think you should throw him a B-day party. If u are afraid that he can not remember it maybe you should videotape it. If u donĀ“t have a camera yourself u might be able to borrow from someone =)

i hate when people say that you should do stuff for kids when they are young because they wont remember it...its not about them remembering anything its the fact that as its happening they are enjoying themselves and at that moment it is making them happy! Thats what makes happy kids. Think of if you did nothing fun with a child for the first few years of their life! SO i say heck yea! Throw a party! it doesnt have to be big and expensive but you def want to make a good day for your baby and celebrate their first year of life!

I'd say no. Have a few close friends and family round and cake but I wouldn't throw a party for them. I'd get them a present and that but there not going to remember a party so it is a bit of a waste of money wereas the toy or whatever could become one of their favourites! Besides January the first is new years day so there'll be lots of parties to celebrate the new year anyway :)

I did for both of my kids. I think it is more for the parents at that age but I have pictures to show them as they get older.
