The photo was taken several New Year Eves ago with our New York friend, Sandi. She and her husband have a condo here in our building. We were introduced by our sister-in-law, who also has a condo in our building, when we used to come to Florida for long weekends. We hit it off immediately.
Sandi and her husband came to our son’s wedding on October 6th, 2017. That was the the last time we saw her until last week.
She underwent surgery and 12 rounds of chemotherapy for a rare cancerous growth on her colon. Unfortunately, the cancer cells have spread to her thyroid, lungs, and female regions.
I must give her credit for being such a fighter and having a great attitude. I do pray that when she returns to New York next month to receive treatment in a study, it works.
Meanwhile, she looks fabulous with her new short and curly hair that has grown in and slim and fit. She played tennis yesterday and intends to enjoy her life, Florida, and her granddaughters as long as she can.
By the way, her husband told us all this. She won’t discuss it.

I really admire your friend Sandi for her attitude and that she's fighting hard to beat that "C" word. It just goes to show that we can never take our life for granted or how many days we have to spend on this earth. I pray that her treatment works and she can be a survivor.

I hope she has a very positive mental attitude about beating the cancer. Our mind plays a big part in the battle against disease. From the sounds of it, she is a fighter. Good for her. I hope she beats this nasty cancer.

@DianneN Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Sometimes we can fight the good fight and still come out on the losing end. I just hope she's not in a lot of pain as she continues to deal with the cancer.

@moffittjc She isn't in any pain, thank goodness, and played tennis twice this week and made plans to walk with me tomorrow. I think she's here mostly to enjoy Florida, a place she loves.

@DianneN - Like me, you sound like a realist. I know that, as the illnesses accumulate and more organs are affected, time becomes short. My husband is a realist, too, about his multiple illnesses. We know that it is only a matter of time before one of them takes him down ... heart disease, kidney disease, or blood cancer. He has all three. If he makes it five more years, it will be a miracle. We try to make the most of every day we have together. Perhaps knowing that our time together could be short makes that time more precious. We hardly ever have petty disagreements anymore!

A good attitude goes a long way when fighting cancer. I will keep her in my prayers that the new treatment will work and give her a longer life with her family and friends.

How sad these things happen to so many lovely people. I am sure she appreciates your friendship. Whatever you were telling her obviously made her laugh her back teeth off! You were the tonic she needed! Hope the new treatment works!

I'm sorry she has cancer, and many forms of it at that. I'm glad she intends to enjoy her life and family though.. and understand her not wanting to talk about it. I wouldn't want to either. And wouldn't want others talking about it on me, either.

@DianneN you could be. But if she doesnt want to talk about it with anyone, then i doubt it. Sucks for her. Feel so bad.

God, I HATE cancer. It is probably one of the most disgusting diseases ever known to man and takes so many people from us way too early. I hope she wins the fight, although based on what you have said here it is probably just a matter of time before she succumbs to it. I wish her all the best.
