Big fat wedding on borrowed money

Big fat indian wedding

Our maid's sis-in-law is getting married. Her husband is spending and for which he has taken a big loan. Wedding ceremonies are going on since the last few days. Money just flows. I just had to ask as to how they will repay. The reply was that they invite many people who will give money as gift and that money does not go the bridal couple but to her husband. The money thus collected will help him settle the loan. Brilliant is an under statement. Would you like to take this idea?

We also borrowed money for our wedding, around 8.000 $ and the total cost was around 12.000 $. People gave us money and it was enough to pay for everything and we still had some money left. I think it will be ok, they just have to be careful .

@allknowing it did, it's what most people do here. When someone gets married, they rent a ballroom, pay for a catering, a music band and for the decorations of that ballroom. But they only pay around 10% of the total sum, the rest is payed after the wedding party. And there are people invited, usually 200+. Each guest gives money before leaving. It depends, but for a wedding like this you need an initial amount of 2.000 $, the total cost is around 15.000 $ and the money from guests amounts to 25.000$ or more.

And what happens if the gifts are only in kind and hardly any cash.

@allknowing For us all gifts go only to the bride and groom. Their families dont get it.

This is what always happens in the south of Italy, especially in Sicily.

It is an indirect way of collecting money to celebrate weddings.

@allknowing In most countries close family members and friends give money. I think it's better than gifts.

I guess it's done differently in other countries. When I married I don't think we received any money - but we did get three toasters.

We got pressure cookers yes cookerS I still use one of them. Old is gold. We got other gifts too and money and all that was for us unlike what will happen to the money collected at the wedding I am talking about. It will go to the one who is spending for it.

If there is no other way to pay why not. I think it's okay?

Many just have a registered marriage and that's it if they have no money to spend rather than borrow

No there is a huge chance that the amount may not be enough to cover the loan.

I would not but that is what some people want. We just went to the courthouse and a judge married us.

Many do what you did rather than be burdened with loans that have to be repaid.
