Help the Homeless

Our homeless push grocery carts digging in garbage cans for food to eat, while others of means drive their BMW's and fancy Jeeps. Some are our Veterans who fought for our lives, while others of means complain taxes are too high. Millions of our homeless barely live day to day, while others of means look the other way. Please; those of means, share what you can, high heels, jewelry or golf clubs are not in the plan. How would you feel if you had nothing to eat, and living in cold weather sleeping on the street. A little of your time and a nickel or dime, is what will end this rhyme.

Well, in San Jose, many are not really needy, and are not even from the Bay Area. They come here for the free stuff. There are groups of people who work in teams, each holding a similar looking sign, saying they need money, are hungry, etc. Then at the end of their "shift" they go to their expensive car and drive away!

I have seen and heard about that too @Aquitaine24 and they makes me mad as hell because it affects the ones that really need the help.

@andriaperry Every time I have to go the Food Bank (because I only get $15 a month in Food Stamps), I see people in there with $300 hair-do's, nice clothes and then go outside and see them get into brand new SUV's. My car is a 2000 Saturn and I weigh 99 pounds. I'd say there's a little difference there.

I have met REAL homeless people and I have met bums who are able to work and have stuff because they pretend. There is this one guy in Anniston and I seen his wife/ Girlfriend, she kissed him before he got out, drop him off at the on ramp of the I-20 with his dog and back pack, the sign read homeless and needing money. Of all the people I have seen that were homeless and I have bought meals for some, these people would NEVER ask for anything. There is also the old saying, you can led a horse to water but you cannot make him drink. Its harder than you think in to make some of these homeless people do what you want them to do, and live like you want them to live.

I hate the scammers @andriaperry . My husband & I saw a homeless guy holding a sign that said, "Will work for food." We pulled up and told him we had some yard work he could do. He said, "Can you give me the money instead?" Seriously?????

@Aquitaine24 I know those who will rent a house and ask for the deposit to be split or can they do a little work for the deposit, each and every time I will never get no more than the first months rent and a small part of the damage deposit and I will be stuck with them , evict and then I have to go as far as get a court order and the sheriff sitting them out. I usually get a judgement from the courts they have to pay me the back rent and deposit. BUT these people do this for a living thinking they can live a couple months somewhere free, the laws have changed and I can take future cars, homes etc. if they do not pay, up to 20 years. 99% of the time family will take someone in and help them get on their feet, its the people who do not want to follow their rules that won`t go back to moms.

Homelessness is a huge problem. At least in Australia they don't have to contend with snow and really bitter temperatures.

That's a good thing @JudyEv . I think what really bothers me is that there are never-ending organizations that collect money to feed the hungry in 'other' countries (Africa, etc), but how can or why should we do that when we can't even control the problem in our own country.

@nanette64 'Charity begins at home' sort of thing. I think for some people giving for overseas eases any pangs of conscience but facing up to 'real' people in need is too confronting. No way that excuses them but I wonder if that's part of the reason.

@JudyEv I think you're probably right on that.

I would wager that most people holding up signs are where they are bc of the choices they made and no one put them there. I would also wager that the people who actually need help most are not the ones you see on the street holding up signs. Look for people you know you could benefit if that's what you want. But if you are going to give to street people there is no reason to judge them. They have their chosen plan for life and there is no shame in contributing to their way of life if that is what a person wants to do. After all we contribute endlessly to celebrities who pretty much do nothing but take our money and smile. ETA: Love the poem!

Yeah, the ones 'not' holding the signs are probably the 'real' ones because they're too sick, tired, or cold to stand up @Nameless . The celebrity stuff sometimes makes me mad. I guess it comes down to figuring out who's faking and who's not.

I just wish; as others have in this post, that the scammers would get caught and penalized so the real victims can receive help @a_jerobon .

Since my family has been in the situation it is very important to us to bless others. Even when we don't have extra because we know our Father will provide. =)
