Should I pay or start blogging on free platform

Which blogging platform should I work with as a newbie. Do I need to start by experimenting with free platform like bloggers or do you think I should go straight to paid hosting, domain etc.

I would try the free platforms first. Better to get some experience before going in full, at least that's what I think .
