Changing our plans for tomorrow

It's my husband's birthday on Wednesday but he's working all day. Tomorrow (Tuesday) is his day off so I proposed we go out for the day and suggested we head to Oxford. It's only about an hour away and the museums and restaurants are great. Today it's really cold so he decided it might not be such a good idea and asked if we can just go to the local town for lunch and then go to the cinema. That way the weather won't matter too much. It's his birthday so his choice and I'm happy to go along with it.

I've never been to Oxford, but I'm going back to London in the fall and may put it on our agenda. We're trying to decide if we want to go to Oxford or Cambridge. Any restaurants to recommend in Oxford?

I'm about an hour from both but I studied in Oxford so I'm totally biased in recommending Oxford ahead of Cambridge. The museums are better and the centre is more compact and easier to navigate. Remind me nearer the time and I'll get you some restaurant recommendations.

I hope so. Next time I'll marry a husband with a birthday in the summer - more opportunities for a nice day out (only kidding).

You are right, it's his birthday, it's his choice. You can go to Oxford when it warms up. Happy Birthday to your husband.

@boiboing I do not like snow at all. Here it's very cold, cloudy but no snow for the moment. I am glad to live in the south.

It was a good decision because when we came out of the cinema it was snowing.

It sounds a more comfortable option. We'll be going to see the first of the films of the Summer Film Festival which is running at the moment in our nearest city.

We're going to see 'The Favourite' about Queen Anne. It should be good.

It's a shame it didn't work out for him to be off on his birthday but this is the first time in many years that I've been home for his special day.

It is a good plan and you will have a great day Actually it doesn't matter that the celebration must be on birthday. It is fine to celebrate it in a convenient time.

It's also a cheap day out as we've recently got access to a scheme for half priced tickets on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

@boiboing Or you could wait and celebrate at the restaurant in Delhi's Ashoka hotel - a buffet that takes all day to get through. But who knows, it might not be quite the same as it was in 1979.

@boiboing Connaught I know well, but again, not since 1979 while the soviet tanks were rolling into Kabul and upsetting my travel plans.

I just read this in late March. If you do decide on a trip to Oxford one day maybe we could meet for coffee! If you ever get this message that is - have you given up on MyLot? Hope all is OK.
