A Little Marie Kondo Watching

I've been watching Marie Kondo, but in some ways I'm way ahead....I decluttered drastically when we moved to Florida (2/3 of my belongings were sold or donated)j. I only kept the items that meant EVERYTHING to me. Now again this last October when I moved back. Unfortunately I still brought half of my stuff back to Ohio but I had very tidy house up here that didn't need anything. My Ohio home is full of new stuff I bought while intending to live here half the year and half in Florida, I didn't like feeling so unsettled so I just made a decision to stay here and rent the Florida house, which was furnished with all my lifetime possessions. So I can't fit everything I brought into the house. Both are the same size. So I am once again organizing, choosing and creating space while looking at a garage full of boxes containing my treasures. Anyone else trying to figure out what brings them joy?

A little compromise works wonders. Hopefully he will surrender some items to help the cause.

@Jeanniemaries I hope so, too much things in our lives only take us our precious time.

We decluttered a lot when we moved from France to Switzerland. An International move is exhausting and you have to list everything you take with you, it was a good incentive.

@Jeanniemaries It took weeks, not a precise list but something like "two full set of dishes xx pieces in all, x number of pans, x numbers of towels..." a real pain.

Oh wow! That would be hard to list everything! I can't even list my donation stuff, it's so much!

I'm getting more and more curious about Marie Kondo. I like watching nifty videos but none of hers yet.

I don't think there is enough new content in each show to warrant watching the series unless you are interested in each family dealing with the stress of decluttering. She has the same formula for each but does bring out something new in each show, like how to fold sheets, how to fold socks...using boxes for smaller items in bigger spaces etc.

Creativity may be the key. It is a challenge but will keep your brain active.

Not yet. Just some creative planning that is not overwhelming. Fortunately I have a garage for storage and I can still park in it.

I had a major declutter several years ago and continue to do bits and pieces. I haven't found her methods a lot of help really but then I'm not starting from scratch. I don't fold my clothes like she does. I don't have enough for them to all prop against each other and I don't want to spend ages trying to make them 'sit' the way they should. Certainly everyone is talking about her. And in Australia, she's been blamed for op shops being inundated with donations from people decluttering to the point where some are refusing to take any more donations.

@Jeanniemaries If I did the greet and thank stuff I'd need to do it silently or Vince would have me locked up! I'll check out the suitcase packing again though.

OH that is funny! No one wants the donations! Yes, people have way to much stuff. I like the folding. I folded the clothing in my suitcase the way she said and NO WRINKLES! Also so much easier to find what I brought. Saved space too. She recommends using smaller boxes in drawers to keep things organized and that would solve your problem. I'm converting my drawers now that I'm back because it saved space and keeps things wrinkle free. I am not greeting my house or thanking my stuff before I threw it out.

I heard recently that she's on Netflix, I think it is. I've not watched her before, but I did read one of her books a few years ago. She has some interesting ideas. I don't know that I can say everything I keep brings me joy. My clothes don't bring me joy, but I need them anyway. I have been trying to go through things somewhat and I'm trying to get some clutter taken care of soon because my daughter is bringing her new boyfriend over for us to meet for the first time and it would be nice to have my area a bit better than it is now or normally. Most of my stuff is book keeping and it doesn't bring me joy, but will bring a lot of sorrow if I ever get audited, lol.

We've been decluttered for years. Many of the things in our now vacation home in Connecticut found a place in our home in Florida. The only thing that brings me true joy is my family and good health. The rest is just icing on the cake.
