Facebook doesn't help in situations like this

United Kingdom

It's so sad when friends have a serious falling out. Friends of ours have had just such a serious happening with other friends of theirs (whom we do not know). The situation has become quite heated and Facebook has become the battleground. We have tried to counsel our friends. We have tried to persuade them to simply forget what happened and cease contact with their former friends but both sides are intent on posting snide comments and memes which don't actually name anyone, but everyone knows who is being referred to. This has been going on for several days with no end in sight. Facebook and other social media sites have a lot to answer for because they facilitate such behaviour - it seems they have created a rod for our backs!

Social media is not the place to air disagreements. This is sad to hear.

@CarolDM I suppose it's better than actual physical violence

In Facebook there are plenty kind of people in all walks of life. There are rude, nice, bad, nasty, and strangers so must watched what we post and we have to show things that people will give respect and not make a mess.

@janethwayne If I were really bothered by someone on FB I would simply block them

Some of my acquainted are like this on Fb. I tried to ignore it. Besides, I can dwell to this kind of situation. It is too vulgar to be involved, especially if it is on a social networking site.

@ThreeTeddies For me, I don't mind what they will say at my back. If it is below the belt attack, they will unleash my evil side.

@Shavkat Nasty people can be blocked but that would mean that we wouldn't know what they were saying about us

It's just a public battleground in which there are no winners! As the old quote goes, better to remain silent and be thought an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt!

@ThreeTeddies Indeed. It's almost as if they take on a completely different identity when behind a keyboard. Is the keyboard the modern day equivalent of the steering wheel I wonder?

@WorDazza It's the anonymous nature of the web. They wouldn't say hurtful things face-to-face but are quite happy to say it to a screen

Facebook or for that matter any social media is not the place for anyone to fight and air their grievances.

This is why I don't have anything to do with FB. Vince is on it and keeps me up to date if need be but people get so vicious and nasty I just don't want to be part of it.
