While on a city tour in Morocco [Maroc to them], we were taken to a square for a 'snake charmer' exhibition. A man had a small basket with cobra in it. When he asked for a volunteer to have the snake wound around his/her head I volunteered. I know, some people cannot imagine dong that, but I was sure that the snake's mouth had been sewn together and that there was no danger to me. I was not harmed in any way, silly as I may have been. the 'word 'cobra' is originally the word for any kind of snake, not he hooded one.

I'm not afraid of large constrictors but I'm afraid of poisonous snakes even small ones

@JWMILLER no you had knowledge that the mouth was sewn, so you're wise

@jwmiller In India a snake charmer chased me down the street because I wouldn't give him money for showing me his snake (!). He kept holding the snake's head in my face (I didn't know about the sewing thing) and in a act of very silly bravado I leaned over and kissed the thing on the mouth and the charmer realized he'd met his match and went away.

I wa sure that they would not ruin their business with a snake bite.
