"Is TAP WATER DRINKABLE in your Country?"

Since birth, I never dared to drink tap water. It is simply because not safe to drink it. Or, if it is being boiled, then I can have a cup of coffee. As the years go by, it changes and preferred to drink purified water. I was just wondering in your place if you can drink straight from the faucet. I had seen in some countries that they can drink it without any second thoughts. I have this thinking that can still be safe since most pipelines are old to continue its safety for people to use. I think it's okay in the city that I live in. I drank almost everyday straight from the faucet for years until now

That's nice to hear. In my country, it is not possible if it was not being boiled. The possibility of getting sick might happen since the local people are not confident enough to the old pipelines here.

@snowy22315 Some mountains nearby to our city, some locals can still drink water from the mountains. In our city, it is impossible.

I think deep well is much common in the countryside here. However, if we are going to build a new house, I am hoping to have one in the yard. I had tasted tap water before and it tastes good.

Yes, no problem. Tastes good too :-) I really don't understand people that use money on bottled water in Norway, 'cause it is more or less the same as tap water but costs a lot. You can get it with different flavours in bottles, but I still think it's a waste of money when the tap water is safe.

@Shavkat Last summer when it was really warm (warm for Norway at least) I did a lot of hiking and always forgot to bring water. Drank a lot of water from moores, usually above the city 'cause they're not polluted. Our drinking water comes from a lake not that far from the city, it is cleared etc before we drink it but it is pretty good before too. There's no farms around the lake, and access is quite strictly regulated.

@Torunn It is nice to have these natural resources. Unfortunately, they can only be found in far-flung areas.

There is water with flavors here, too. I do agree that it costs quite an arm and a leg. I don't buy them if there is no choice situation. It was nice that the tap water in your country is drinkable. In my country, it is only possible to drink water from the mountains. However, these places are too far from the cities.

It is nice that there are still some places that have water drinkable. In my country, it is not possible to drink straight from the faucet or even using the deep well.

When I was just a little boy, we and our classmates were allowed to drink from tap water..and it was safe then, but now considering the number of houses and establishments built now and more people and more are already living in the area...I may say the water may still be drinkable but not as fresh and clean before, so now bottled water are the ones safe to drink esp., for kids..

I can relate to you. For the reason that I am from Baguio City, too. Distilled water is really suitable for babies. For kids to adults, purified water became more useful to the local people nowadays. Welcome to mylo, kabsatt!

It is a nice that you had settled to a perfect place to live in. I would feel the same way of being in such a place. Unfortunately, my country is in a turmoil of political issues. That includes the commodities that continue to increase its prices.

Though drink use tap water as it is but I can't be sure. There is a lot of iron in our ground water and in some area even arsenic.

I agree with the part of the groundwater. We don't feel safe having it, especially if it is near the river. That includes having deep well in the cities. I assumed that it is not possible to drink without boiling it.

I do think it is the safest to boil it. In my country, most of the local people preferred to have purified water. With the exemption for babies, it is best to use distilled water for them.

Yes. The United States has some pretty strict rules when it comes to anything "consumer" related. So, yes. Tap water is perfectly safe to drink. STILL, in the United States, the bottled water industry is booming. But I think it's more due to people's perceptions than realities. People THINK bottled water is better than tap water, and while water is flavorless, people will SWEAR certain bottled waters taste better than tap. It's ALL perception and marketing.

I think most Asian countries prefer to drink purified water. Bottled water is quite expensive. Can I ask? Is the water there undergone chlorination?

@Shavkat Yes. Tap water here is chlorinated. Still, a lot of people in the U.S. consume bottled water of some sort, both purified and spring. But, aside from a couple of cases such as in Flint, MI, and a case of cryptosporidium some years back in Wisconsin, there are few cases of tainted tap water in the U.S. I tend to drink bottled water mostly simply because it is affordable. I figure why not? I generally pay about $1.79 for a 24-pack of 500ml bottles which comes to about 7 cents a bottle, AND since my job supplies bottled water at work for free—when I do drink it at home I am not spending hardly anything at all on water.

@DocAndersen You said it right. Poliomyelitis's pathogens came from the leaking pipelines. I do think that most countries have water chlorination.

In my country, the tap water is treated with chlorine. It can be seen if having directly from the faucet. We don't usually drink it directly since we can't tell what pathogens might have with the water.

@Shavkat Most countries treat tap water with Chlorine. It kills the vast majority of bad things in the water. The question is how much treatment and for how long. The other issue is of course, the piping to the home. Clean water gets dirty fast in old piping!
