I am so angry I can't see straight right now. My daughter and I went to lunch at a buffet on Wed and I left a tip on the table for the girl. We went to the register and paid before we left. The bill came to $17.30 and I used my debit card, well I saw the transaction on my bank statement and wrote it in my check book. Today the payment went through at $20.30!!!! Hmmmm, how can that be, where did that extra $3 come from.
Evidently, after we left, someone voided my slip and rang a new one with a $3 tip for themselves on it. WTH??? I called and was livid today asking about it, they called me back and said it has never happened before and the girl made a mistake. How do you mistakenly void after its been signed and do another and sign it??
We won't be eating there anymore and I will for sure not be using my debit again. Good thing I watch my statements, wonder how many other people they have done this too.
Has this ever happened to you??

That is strange because you left a cash tip.

Wow, that's just wrong. My husband and I have had strange and stupid things happen but nothing like that. At least not to the best of my knowledge.
So if the girl made a mistake, which is a very careless mistake at that, all they need to do is credit your account 3 bucks or hand you the 3 bucks.
It never ceases to amaze me how many times people use the same worn out excuse: This has never happened or It was a mistake.
Give me a break!

@betlynfrnds I went in and talked with them, she was still making excuses and was all over herself trying to give me more money because I wouldn't take their free meal they kept offering. I turned down all the money but my $3 and left. I hope they learned something from it.

You did the right thing to tell them off. It has never happened to me. I usually also leave a tip on the table so that the waiter or waitress can have the tip right away.

some people feel entitled to other people's money, so they start with small amounts, and i guess others who do notice just shrug it off and don't bother to pursue it, so they get away with it.

@cintol there is that old saying about honesty/integrity/character is what you would do when no one is looking. some people can stumble on/recognize loopholes and opportunities to cheat, yet never do it.
i've never worked in retail or the food business or even in a bank or collection company, but i always thought when your business involves money, you had to "balance the books" at the end of the day, some sort of check and balance and auditing goes on.

@hereandthere This is true, I worked in a casino for 12 yrs. I was the supervisor in the main cage which took care of all the money in the casino. We had to balance millions of dollars at the beginning and ending of our shifts and yet people still found ways to steal in there and that was with 32 cameras in that small area.

Yes, but not like that. I used to eat at a familiar sub chain, not Subway, that was across the street from my work. I was very low on cash one month and didn't get anything from there, yet when I got my bank statement, I saw a charge on my statement from them. I went to the bank, they investigated it, and the money was put back in my account. I never ate there again.
Good call not eating at that restaurant again.

Wow, I am glad you got the money put back in your acct. How did they charge on your card when you hadn't been there, thats shady.
Sucky part here is that it is a Chinese place and I love the food and we really don't have any other options for that. We have one other small one but its not as good

Oh wow, I have never heard of that happening before. I have not paid attention extremely close, but I don't think that's ever happened to me.

Not that I know of since going to restaurants is a thing of the past with me. It is now the local Little Caesar's Pizza and some of the hamburger places to eat.

I hope you are still keeping track of your debit and credit card charges if you use them there as well.

When you sign the slip always do a 0 in the add tip section, as far as I know they cannot add anything else. You need to report them to the police for stealing because they may have yours and others debit card numbers and can charge in you.
