A World War I memento found in a West Australian thrift shop

I’ve been away for two nights and now have a heap of notifications to respond to but I’m slowly getting there. The photo is of two brooches which my uncle brought back from the Middle East when he was posted over there in World War I. The brooch in the lower photo has ‘Bethlehem’ written on the scroll at the bottom. Two of my uncles went to the war but neither saw service. One was in the navy but was so seasick for so long he was discharged as unfit. However I’ve used this photo as it is the only one I have that sort of fits an article I read in a local paper. A locket was found among items gifted to the local thrift shop. When opened, there was a photo of an Australian digger (soldier) inside and some initials. So now the hunt is on to try to find someone who is connected to the soldier and who might like to have this memento.

That is so nice that they are trying to find a family member, it is sad when these mementos go out of the family.

@JudyEv One would assume so but you never know things do have a way of traveling long distances.

Hopefully someone will know something about it. Surely it had to have been gifted from the area.

Those are lovely. I'm happy they stayed in your family, unlike the one that got donated. I hope the family wants it back

We get that paper every month and I'm sure it will get reported if a relative is found. I'll be sure to write about it.

That would be a blessing if the locket and photo could be returned to the family of the soldier.

@JudyEv I’m sure the close relatives are long gone, but hopefully there is family left who would cherish it.

Finding the successor of WW1 lost memento; those soldiers might have family, they can check records.

Maybe they gathered up a deceased estate's bits and pieces and didn't think to look in the locket.

I didn't find the locket. It was written up in the paper. It's good that the person is trying to find the owner.

I hope they can find the family of the soldier in the photo. If he has no living relatives maybe it can go to a historical society or military museum.
