Big Diet Secret!

We all know that we gain weight when we eat more calories than our bodies can burn off. Being on the thin side is better for your overall health.
That’s why I put my husband on a diet two weeks ago. Along with exercise he has lost over 11 pounds. Since I eat what I serve him, I wound up losing 10 pounds! You can Google the conversions if you’d like.
My big diet secret is to simply cut back on portions. We still eat most things we enjoy. Of course, you will never find a loaf of bread in our house, sugary desserts, a fattening quiche, a dish full of candy, fatty red meats, or things like that, except when we have guests, and even they eat wisely. I noticed that in restaurants, too. By the way, I still enjoy my nightly glass of wine or cocktail when we dine out.
My husband’s belly isn’t as big as it was, but he will remain on his diet as long as it takes. I felt thin enough before, but must have been a fatty. I do not like being fat!
I know many of you are nice and thin. Anyone else doing anything to keep fit and healthy?

I weigh 130 lbs and will continue to eat wisely and take my daily walks. All the best with your diets of eating smaller portions.

@DianneN I became a wise eater because I got sick and could not stand the pain anymore. I was told to change my diet and walk a lot and that was 12 years ago. That's life!

@1hopefulman Wow! That is an amazing story. There are those I know of who are very ill and very overweight who don't do a thing to help themselves. Shame on them!!!

Congratulations!
I've always been large (many reasons - I was born premature, therefor put on steroids before birth, Metabolic Syndrome X aka. insulin resistance ... and... not the least of which - I love food) and now for the first time I'm just trying to be healthier. I still don't eat the best, but I try to exercise and get in some fruit and veggies...

@DianneN Oh yeah. It's no problem. Bodies of all shapes can be healthy. Though I think it's always a good plan to eat healthy and exercise.
If you want a crunchy snack - kale chips get crispy and your choice of what to season them with. (alright, they're not exactly like Doritos.... ) but yeah :-)

@DianneN Those are all good. :-) I've actually heard that eating small meals and snacks helps, but I don't know if that's just insulin resistance people or everyone. My (unsmart) self prefers big meals, actually, but.... like everything I seem to like what isn't good for me

I´m on a not harsh diet to slim down a bit during the year. I want to lose around 2 pounds each month. After a year I will be on my desired weight. My diet is like yours: cut down on portions and eat less bread.

@DianneN I want to lose a kilo each month this year. Up to now, I´m doing fine. When and if I take Luna for walks, things will get better.

It sounds like a sensible way to lose weight. That's basically what we do. I was 6 pounds overweight a few years ago and my doctor yelled at me! He said, "Can't you lose one pound a month?" . I dieted like a maniac before my next appointment, and the rat never said a word!

We use smaller plates than we once did. You aren't eating as much but you don't notice. There are lots of little tricks and portion control is a great one!! And exercise is a necessity for us!

I hate to say it but I so need to lose 20 pounds, I was on a good vegetarian diet and stayed at a good weight, not thin and not fat. Being a caregiver to someone in and out of the hospital, doctor offices and driving so much, its impossible for me to cook 2 meals, mine low fat, low carb and his full fat and high calorie to keep his weight up.
However, I lost weight last year, while he was in remission, and I have not gained any back. But I will drop a few more pounds as spring and summer comes, I always burn more calories than I eat.

@andriaperry I'm sure you look thin and fit, Andria. I always feel fat, too, but I''m not. We are our own worst enemies.

@DianneN Although I feel fat and see my tummy, most people say I`m not fat.

Congratulations on that! ^_^ Its not easy to do that , it takes control and discipline to achieve it.
I was able to lose 11lbs since I change my eating habit for the last 6 months. Maybe its not that huge but I am happy and proud on that. What I did was to cut my calorie intake, I stop consuming softdrinks and other sugary drinks and I minimize my carb intake.
I also consume more water (warm water).

Good for you! I know how nice and thin you are as well as how healthily you eat.
For all veggies, unless I steam them, I toss them in olive oil with fresh chopped garlic and spices, and roast them in the oven until they are tender. It's quite simple and so very delicious!!!!!

@amitkokiladitya That's the difficult part. I take smaller portions and am a slow eater, so everything lasts longer. I love to savor my foods. I've never been a fast eater.

No bread??! AAhhh!! I love my bread.
Thank God He has blessed me with the body I have and I am very grateful for it. I don't eat a lot and I definitely don't eat any sweets. But I do have a weak spot for pasta, bread, rice, chicken and chips!

@DianneN I know all about NY bread! I lived on Long Island for 19 years of my life. =) Gosh, I miss their bagels and buttered rolls.

@LindaOHio We’ve cut way back on our red meat, Linda, and eat half as much as we used to when we do eat it. We have chicken and lots of fresh fish. My husband is like yours, but he eats what I cook.

I do love a bit of pasta once a week, but we are staying away from what I call fillers and eating double the fresh and organic vegetables. We both dislike the bread in Florida. Once you've eaten the delicious breads of NY, Paris, and Italy, nothing tastes as good. I'm within a few pounds of my fighting weight, so I'm very pleased, especially since I'm a grandma. My hubs is doing very well, too. We had chicken with those veggies. We have protein every night, actually.

I hate to admit it; but I'm one of the fatties. I believe in everything in moderation; but I am unable to get around much and cannot exercise. I could eat much better if I had you to serve me my meals! I'd love to eat more veggies and more lean proteins; but I haven't been able to do much cooking for quite a few years. I'm so glad that you and your husband will extend your lives by your healthy practices.

@LindaOHio I'm terribly sorry to hear that. That sounds awfully painful. Could anything help you? My husband had back surgery 2 1/2 years ago and still isn't 100%.

@DianneN The surgery only took care of replacing a knee and a hip. I have major problems with my spine from arthritis and scoliosis. It keeps us from travelling which makes me very sad. We had planned on doing so much travelling when we retired.
