At Least We Know Where the Hospital Is

I witnessed something I hope to never see again.
Tuesday evening our sister-in-law invited my brother, his wife, my husband, and me to her condo for dinner before going to the theater. We never made it to the theater.
I was sitting across the table looking at my brother as he was speaking. Suddenly, his words became jumbled and nonsensical, his eyes rolled, then closed, his head fell forward, and he developed tremors.
I was at his side in moments. We called 911 and they arrived within minutes. In the meantime I used my sister-in-law’s dinner napkins, wrung out in cold water, to place on my brother’s forehead and the back of his neck. I didn’t know what else to do except call his name.
He wound up in the hospital. By the time we arrived, he was laughing and joking. Apparently, his blood pressure had dropped very low due to being dehydrated. They kept him overnight for observation and was discharged late yesterday afternoon.
Thank goodness he’s okay. Needless to say, I wasn’t in the mood to myLot, but now we know where the hospital is located.

This happened to him last summer, but no one was around for hours to help him. He wound up spending two weeks in the hospital and was delirious for 9 days. We thought he's never recover. He has to drink more water!!! He's doing much better, Anna. Thanks.

Low blood sugar is bad enough being dehydrated is very bad!
I am glad he is okay.

Wow, that is very scary! I am really glad he is okay now. I'm sorry you experienced that. It brought me back to the memory of my 2 year old at the time having seizures. =(

@DianneN Try not to be too hard on him. Sometimes we forget how important our own health really is-until we get a wake up call and sometimes we need more than one to wake up to the realization.

@LovingMyBabies It's a bit more involved than I mentioned, but thanks.

That is a scary thing to witness. Happened to my uncle a few years ago.
Glad he is OK now and it was something that is fairly easily fixed and should be avoidable in the future. It's easy to chastise someone for not drinking enough water but it's not always possible. I know I can get involved in a tricky problem at work and before I know it 3 hours have passed and I've not drank anything!!
This discussion is probably a wakeup call for all of us, not just your brother!!

Oh no. That is scary! You know... similar has happened to my dad. Our concern is always another stroke. Instead the ER usually packs him up and sends him home to us with no explanation. Maybe the blood pressure thing is what it.
I'm happy your brother is ok. Keep pushing that water at him.

Wow, that was scary! It must be very hot there for him to become dehydrated. How did that happen?

@1hopefulman He's in his wife's hands now. I can only do so much, but still remind him when we talk or text.

@1hopefulman Wow! That must have been a big fright for you! They say that if you are thirsty, you are already dehydrated. I am like you in that I sip throughout the day, thirsty or not. Going to have a slug of water right now!

What hospital did you end up going to?
I'm glad your brother is okay, and it was nothing too serious.

@DianneN Oh yes, I'm very familiar with JFK. The first time I was ever hospitalized (16, car crash), that's where they took me. That's also the hospital my mom has been getting treated at over the years for her numerous medical issues. In fact, she was a patient at JFK at the time of my dad's passing a couple of years ago.

@moffittjc Sorry to hear of all the uses you and your family made at JFK. They say is one of the fest hospitals around. And everyone was so nice and caring.

I can imagine what kind of stress you have experienced. It happened to my husband the same, maybe a month ago.
And he was also the blood pressure and the sugar on the lower border. I was just scared..

@LowRiderX OMG! That must have been just awful for you to see. Head wounds bleed so easily. I can imagine what you thought and how you felt. Thank goodness he is okay now.

@DianneN I went to Davao and Kabacan, North Cotabato where I was born together with my sister , for a short vacation. We clarified the shares of inheritances of my mother and thankfully, it has a good result.
After that, i was so busy at work. That's natural when one gets a leave of absence from work.

I screamed like a banshee for help. I have never been so frightened. Everyone there helped me, because his wife was in the bathroom at the time.
Thank you. He's fine and all better. Where have you been? I haven't seen a new post from you in forever?

That is scary. I can relate to it as I have witnessed it with my mom in law a few times due to low blood pressure or some electrolytes imbalance as she is a kidney patient. First time I panicked but now I stay calm and composed while taking her to hospital.
Take care. I hope he is doing well now.
