I love my mother and try to give her the respect she deserves. I always listen to her advice and take it into consideration. If she and I disagree on something I try to explain to her my point of view. We tend to agree on most things, but we have a few areas where we have agreed to disagree and not discuss it further. We get into serious fights over my son and how I am raising him. She has her ideas and I have mine and we both know that these fights will never cease as she sees her position as being an older mother who knows better and I see my postion as the actual mom who has to make the choices. But we both know that we love each other and we love my son completely and we agree that his welfare is our main concern.
I do not repect my father in anyway what so ever. He is mean, hateful, selfish and just an all around horrible man. Growing up, I avoided any contact with him. I still do for the most part. I cannot avoid him completely now due to the fact that my son adores him. He and my mother are still married so when my son goes to see Grandma he sees Grandpa. I will admit that my father adores my son and is so completely good to him. I am working on forgiving him for being a terrible dad, but I do not think I will ever respect him.

I respect my parents because the Holy Book (Bible) asked us to do so that our days may be longer. Check this Bible verse out (Ephesians 6:1-3) And it also goes to parents too when you read (Ephesians 6:1-4)that they should not provoke their children

I try, but it has always been a rule for me, to respect the ones who earn it. Just because they are your parents doesnt mean the deserve your respect. Everyone should get respect at first, but then if they don't return the favor, why should you. Parents are people too.

Yes, I respect my parents. I don't always agree with my parents, but I always will respect them... unless by some strange chance I find that they have been doing something extremely and morally wrong behind my back.

I am happy that at least there is one person who said that parents should earn their respect.
Whether they deserve such respect or not, we have a duty to respect them.
1. Where respect is shown out of natural effervescent love to deserving parents, it becomes lively, refreshing like cool breeze.
2. Where respect is shown as a matter of filial duty, required by ethics, I am afraid that our faces will be artificial. We shall be like elephants walking on bottles in a circus.
