When you don't understand a discussion

There are times when we don't understand what the person actually wants to say. This is normal and all of us come across one or more such posts daily. What do you do when you encounter such a discussio? I usually read a few comments to figure out what the discussion holds . Do you just switch over to the nest discussion?

Sometimes it happens as I am not a native English speaker but I try to re-read it more carefully to understand it.

I saw one yesterday that just boggled my mind. The writer was very upset about something, no idea what. I just simpy stated that I hope he has good luck with whatever it is and that I really don't understand. From the comments, I saw that I was not the only one who was mystified.

@KlyliePot Sometimes, someone writes something and don't realize that others don't have any idea what they are talking about. They need to explain it better.

If I don't understand it I usually just skip it. Like you, I occasionally read the replies to get an idea.

Senseless and shallow posts are causes of migraine. Do not attempt to make sense. Leave the post and you will be saved from headaches.

@amitkokiladitya Usually I don't respond to such posts, but sometimes I directly ask the initiator of the discussion what they want to say.

Even I try to read a few comments to figure out. But if it is still not clear to me or something which is alien to me, I refrain from responding.

You are right here, the message seems to be unclear. But in my case, i dont like a one-line discussion or a very long one.

I do the same. Sometimes, if it's a topic I do not know enough, I'm unfortunately skipping, and there are topics that I really don't care about, I skip them too

I think it is good you read some responses to get a feel for things in the discussion. The other thing I have done is to say something like this to the poster "I am understanding that you are talking about such and such. Please let me know if I am wrong."

Don't understand because of grammar or vocabulary inaccuracies? Or because the writer wrote a mini-series?

Mainly because the context goes over my head

If you find a discussion confusing you should ask the author what he/she is trying to say. I do that sometimes. If you are not comfortable doing that in the comments you can always private message the person...

I avoid private messages. If I know the person I ask him in the comment section

I've been skipping plenty of discussions. not because I don't understand but because I just have nothing to add. I'll like the discussion and move on to the next.

That can be a reason. Of I understand the discussion I do post something relevant atleast
