I was tempted, I really thought about it, it was a hard choice but, beach hair didn't agree with me!
This last weekend my daughter in law and I took the kids to Galveston, TX for some fun. I had never been before and OMG, I LOVED it!!! There was so much to do and the beach was so much fun. My blood pressure was the lowest it has ever been.
I called my husband and told him how nice it was there and that I loved the Gulf and he told me to ship the kids back on the bus and stay there, he would come visit every now and again! I actually CONSIDERED it. I could be a beach bum but, sadly my hair didn't agree with that humidity and neither did my built in heater.
It was a beautiful place though and we are considering buying a little beach place down there for vacations. Sitting by the beach was so relaxing, just listening to the water coming in on the rocks, so peaceful.
Have you ever considered staying when you went on vacation?

@cintol We did not trust the realtors and we talked to local people. There is a "rain season" in the Caribbean and it seems it's almost impossible to get out in the street. The humidity is so high that your books get spoiled. I understood why I saw no books and paintings in the houses we visited. We had enough humidity in Monte Carlo, I can imagine how bad it is there during the rainy season.

@cintol NO he has trouble with British English and of course the driving on the other side of the street plus we owned 2 homes already at the time but then I up and bought the Florida House, much more practical. lol But I love England and I would have adored living there.

@BelleStarr England is one of the places I really want to visit, I love their accents and there are so many beautiful things to see there. Driving on the other side of the street would be a challenge for sure.

Yes, we have... Fortunately, I quickly thought better of that idea!
The first time we thought we'd love to stay somewhere besides Missouri, I bought a house in Colorado... It was half-way between Denver and Colorado Springs... But Pretty HATES winter temperatures and I couldn't see being snowed in half the time. So we just used the house for summer vacations for ten years before trouble started out there and I finally sold it to make the trouble stop!
One thing we loved about Colorado was when we got there, the temperature wasn't as cold as everyone told us it would be... We were walking around in two feet of snow in just our shirt sleeves while the people who lived there were bundled up like Eskimos! (We figured out that had to do with the much lower humidity than what we were used to here in Missouri!)

@cintol Well, it's not nearly as much fun when it's you and your kid(s) snowed in as when it's you and someone you're sleeping with!
Yup! The strong winds taught us to make sure we had some kind of jacket, at least, with us!

Being snowed in is half the fun in CO, its a nice change from having to go out and go to work. lol
Thats true, it seems to be much colder the more humidity is in the air, CO is a dry heat so its not that cold in the winter even with 4 ft of snow on the ground and not as warm in the summer. I hardly ever wore a coat there which was fine for me, I even wore flip flops most of the time. I hated shoes. It did get cold when the winds came through though.

I would love to live in Charleston, SC where our daughter lives, but it's too expensive to have the same amount of land that we have in the country in NC. Hope you'll get to visit Galveston many more times.

@cintol The only negatives to Charleston are the humidity in warm weather, the mosquitoes, and the gators!

Vacation destinations always seem like paradises that you would love to live in forever, but the reason it's so wonderful for people is because they are only there for a sort time and they are there for a good time. Spend an extended period of time in such vacation spots and you start to see the ugly side of it. Galveston is beautiful, but that's because you were there during spring time when it's the best time of year there. Trying going back when there's an oil spill, or in the summer when it's a 100 degrees, or when a Cat-5 hurricane is barreling down on the town. Locations of paradise are not always what they are built up to be. Sorry, not trying to burst your bubble., but that is generally the principle that applies to just about every vacation destination. If you ever do decide to purchase a vacation property, make sure you do your homework, and check out every possible detail of the place you want to buy at.

@cintol It's still a great vacation paradise, just not sure if it's the best place to try and live year-round. But, hey, thousands of people do it, so it must not be that bad, right?
Your idea of buying a vacation place and renting it out when you're not there is a good idea. Just be sure you do your homework on flood-prone areas during storm surge, and make sure you can get really good homeowners insurance. And remember, most homeowner's insurance policies don't cover flood damage.

Too late, you already burst my bubble. Thanks Jeff!!! Your probably right though, I wouldn't want to be there during those times and I would never go during the summer because with that heat and humidity I would probably melt into the pavement and be there forever.
I wouldn't mind finding a little place there though that could be rented out during the times of year we are not there and having some where to stay when we want to go. Its not far from our house so it would be a great weekend get a way but I will do my homework before we make that step to make sure we do it right.
Thanks for the advice as this was my first time to the Gulf.

@moffittjc I don't think I would really want to live there year round, my hair wouldn't like me at all if I did with that humidity.
Will do! I doubt they cover flood down there as lots of the homes we saw while there are really run down and need work. The wrought iron was rusted, paint looked awful, wood was coming apart. I am sure its hard with all the humidity there and flooding and storms.

Yes, there were a few places where if I was rich I would have retired there and stayed on a permanent vacation. Your husband could have been a comedian.

@cintol It's hard to be on a permanent vacation without money unless one lived on Gilligan's Island.

Is there such a place anymore, with this weather change I am starting to think the warm places will soon be cold and the cold warmer.

We've traveled the world and loved so many places, that we thought of buying a flat in London or Paris. However, we trust our American hospitals and doctors, so decided to buy a place in Florida. I'm listening to the waves crash along the shore right now. I'm a beach girl at heart. My parents always took us to the beach growing up, and that's where my heart lies.
I do hope you can buy a beach place. I heard Galveston was wonderful!!!!!

I have never been out of the US and have only been on a beach once in Cali when we went to Disneyland. Other than that I had to settle for a pond and waterfall in my yard that my husband built me to listen to the water at our old house. I loved it on the beach in Galveston, not real pretty but the water was so relaxing.
Galveston isn't the prettiest place but water is the same all over when its the ocean and I will take what I can get. Its only 6 hrs from us so seems like the best place and with so much to do we would never get bored.

@FayeHazel Yeah, I think it will be good for the kids to have a place to spend time away from here as well. They all loved the ocean so having a place to stay in whenever we want would be great

@cintol I'm happy that you're checking about a small place at least, that sounds good all around, and you never know, once you have smaller place what it may lead to in future

I would tend to agree with you JB as I saw what it did to mine. No point in taking a curling iron or hairspray there. You just don't need them, it works out on its own!!
