Too much screen time.. How do you get away from it?

I was listening to the news earlier. The anchorman was talking about blue screns and the way they impact our eye health. I decided it was clearly a cue for me to stop staring at the screen (I was playing an archery game) and go elsewhere.
So I did.
Into my bedroom to turn on my television. Yeah, because that's helping my eye health. I guess it's harder to get away from screens than I thought.
What do you do to get away from the internet? From television? Especially for those of us who do a lot of our earning online.

All of that is well and good, but I have to be online to earn, so I do seem to be online ore than I should. I need to make a schedule and stick to it.

I don't have a TV in my bedroom, I read a lot and only get on the internet maybe an hour a day and not always at once. Lately, I've been watching at least two episodes a night of Rizzoli & Isles but when done I'll probably not even watch anything for days. An hour before bed, all blue light goes off, lights dim and less stimulus.

I get where I will watch t.v. for awhile. Usually it's at the end of the year but I've found shows I like now. I wish I could do the whole no blue light an hour before bed but I can't. I watch a news show at 9:00 and then go to bed right after. Sometimes even looking at my phone. There are times that I will read for 20 to 30 minutes before finally going to bed. I think that's what I should start doing, since I have physical copies of books now, and don't rely on the kindle. In fact, this year I decided was going to be a year of physical books.

@noni1959 Oh that was a sweet gift! You use the wii fit? I've used that before but it's been many years. I don't have enough room anywhere to use it. I live with a comic book collector, and his collection has made it's way into the kitchen (much to my chagrin).

@ScribbledAdnauseum After saying I have no TV in my room, my son came today bringing me a 42 inch TV he bought for my birthday/mother's day and couldn't wait to give it to me. Since I'm not in my cabin yet and the living room in my basement quarters is being used as storage for now, he set it up in my bedroom. We played with it this morning and set up my Wii and blu-ray but it's off right now. I may use it tomorrow morning and exercise.

My son has started to go cross eyed, and I think it's from the tablet and phone. He sits so close :/

We were always told not to get too close to the t.v. because of that, and because it would make us go blind.
Though when I was a child, I was cross eyed, not sure if it was for those reasons.

Sad to say but I think I watch far more television than I should. Mine is on most of the day even if I'm not sitting in front of it. My break from staring at a screen is to pick up a real book and read. Lately, though, I've been reading on my Kindle so that kind of defeats the purpose of not staring at a screen.

Kindle's are supposed to be better for your eyes. I don't watch that much t.v., but when I do? I binge it. I have been playing a game (archery) and probably too much. Plus I do surveys and other things to pay the bills. That's one reason why I do have physical copies of books, it's a way to stay away from the screen.

I use spectacles to get rid of eye strain. But in my room distance from tv to bed is very close.

I always wear glasses. I have a pair of tinted glasses but I have to wear them over my prescription, which isn't always practical. Do you have the transitions lenses?

I go sew for a while. Which can cause its own share of eyestrain.

All those tiny stitches. Do you have a special lamp you use? We have a lamp here that (unfortunately) no longer works. It has a magnifying glass on it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum A lamp with a magnifier has been on my wishlist for a couple of years now. So far I haven't broken down and purchased one but that will probably happen eventually.

@SophiaMorros I am sure it would be well worth the money spent on it. Many times over.
