My handwriting is horrendous

Do your words hop and skip as you write them? Does the R rest slightly above the line, as if it's illustrating it's importance by being above the rest?
Does your i curve almost as if it's trying to mimic a slash? (/)
Do you find that your letters are bunched up, almost indecipherable from the rest?
Well, I have.
I've noticed that as I write out my favorite quotes from books, sometimes the words are so small, the letters almost stacking atop each other, that I wonder if i'll even be able to read it again.
I've been trying to write slower, less hurried and with more space. I don't know why I've always rushed through writing, as if my very thoughts are fleeting, requiring me to rush even the simplest of lists.

I don't do handwriting often, but I wanted to do handwriting to record my favorite quotes. I have a nice journal for it.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I write by hand quite regularly in my journal and with drafts of much of the other writing I do. I enjoy the feel of my hand moving across the page.

I've always rushed mine. I have to slow down and then my handwriting is decent enough. I also write in my own shorthand. The cursive letter z is what I use as an ampersand for instance.

@amadeo Well, I mean I'm not quite sure what shorthand is per se. I think it was first introduced in the telegraph and typewriting days. What I mean is I'll write "CHS" instead of "Cheese" if I am writing out a list for the grocery store sometimes. Or I'll write an R and circle it to mean Ranch. Some of it I picked up from when I was a waitress.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I think mine more depends on how concentrated I am. True, it's easier to stay concentrated when you're awake, but I don't think it would influence my writing.
When I write on the blackboard/whiteboard it depends very much on how fast I write. I try not to write to fast, 'cause then it gets a bit messy. Understandable, but messy.

@Torunn Oh I can't write on surfaces like that without it being messy. I guess it's the position of my hands or something.

It also depends on how tired I am. If I am made to write something when I first wake up then my handwriting will be very sloppy.

I've had friends that have taken those courses. I know there are youtube videos that help you learn some calligraphy.

@ScribbledAdNauseum We did in school and I think it was mandatory.

Yes, I hardly ever write anymore. Most of my "writing" is actually typing.

@Sojourn Soon it will be replaced by voice texting. Many people use that already, but the technology isn't completely great yet.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Exactly......typing has replaced writing almost everywhere.

People said I have a beautiful hand writing, but that was many years ago. Since then I rarely used it and always in a hurry, so now it looks... pretty bad . It's unbelievable how even the most simple and common things become difficult without practice.

Not many people use handwriting on a day to day basis anymore. I do not write everyday, but I do type every day. If anything, my typing speed improves. You are right, the less you use a skill, the less practiced you become.

@Kasjnak Yes, the future will have us all very lazy for all the conveniences there will be.

@ScribbledAdNauseum same here, I type almost every day, but I rarely use my hand writing. Well, the future won't require hand writing, I'm pretty sure about that .

My handwriting is probably indecipherable to the average reader. I have to really be trying to make it look nice, neat and legible..I will usually print if I can get away with it.

I agree, I have to really be trying to make it look legible so that everyone else can read it. My letters merge too close together.

I have to write slower when writing a list for other people. For myself, I use short hand and / or just other words like "That cereal I like." which may or may not be written neatly.

My handwriting is readable but bad when I'm rushing. But mostly good, to where I've been complimented for it by many, when i don't.

Are you letters more cured? I find mine are more boxy. Most girls I know have eloquent penmanship, but not mine.

Same here. I've had times when I've signed something twice because I didn't realize I had signed before.

My handwriting is very unusual I would say.For example I connect the dot on the letter I with the next letter. For example the name Julie. I connect the dot with the letter e and it looks like I does have a little dash on top,not a dot. Also when I connect I with s in the word is,i curve the letter s starting from the dot,so it looks like the top half of s is missing. Many people have told me that my handwriting is awful.

It's funny you should mention this. I have a very vague memory of doing the same before it was "corrected out of me."
My cursive letters aren't quite up to par either. I was married once, and my ex-mother in law did not like that I didn't capitalize the H in our last name.

I've heard different things about the way a person writes as well. I think I did some sort of test online about it once. It was something like " Write out the letter R and compare it to these." That type of a test. Personality I guess.

@ScribbledAdNauseum yes dear. It’s called graphology. It is so interesting to know that the strokes of the letters we write tell about our handwriting.i had studied it many years back, i bought a book of it but i forgot most of what i studied. Lol

Practice one page handwriting per day. This will definitely help you my friend. Mine is not too good nor too bad. It varies.

I agree, practice does make perfect. I just do not have a lot of occasion to write things out, and when I do, it's usually simple lists. I just need to remember to slow down.
