We Are So Proud of Our Grandson

We have six grandsons, like any good grandma I am proud of all my grandchildren but right now my grandson Alex is the star of my universe. Alex is 25 years old and is in a bidding war for his first home. We are just so proud of him. He was approved for a mortgage and has fallen in love with a property. He wants to have a minimum of 6 acres along with the house. For him, the land is even more important than the house. He loves to farm, growing heirloom vegetables and he likes to hunt with a bow. He plans to have chickens and turkeys on his mini-farm, he evidently got the farming gene in our family. He just finished his apprenticeship in tool and die and has been with his employer for 5 years. This is the boy who was diagnosed as bipolar when he was 15. It was a real struggle for a few years but he has come so far. He is a thoughtful, kind and hard working man and while he may not win the bidding war, he is confident he will find a property that meets his needs in the near future. We are confident he will too. I am bringing him home a Keurig for his new home, this one or another and I plan to look through my photos and have one of him and his grandpa fishing made into a canvas for his wall. Love that boy to pieces. Alex was 12 in this picture at a Renaissance Faire

Well congratulations to him and I hope he gets that house. Makes me feel good to know such wonderful people are out there and of course, I am positive his grandma helped to raise him just right.

@BelleStarr So many young men now prefer to stay with their parents even in their mid-thirties. It's great that your grandson worked so hard from a very young age.

You have every right to be proud. That sounds like a dream come true for him. I wish him all the best in finding the house and land he wants. There IS a home for every buyer. Is he looking in CT?

Buying a home can be a challenge. A bidding war? No....I would step back. That is an easy way to get carried away and spend more than one should.

My son has bipolar and he struggles with it constantly. He does not want to be medicated for it because he does not like the effects of the medicatiion. I hope he has the winning bid on the house of his dreams. Love the fact that he wants to do a little bit of farming. It’s very rewarding.

Alex has taken the medication in years either, it made him gain a ton of weight and he to didn't like how it made him feel.

It will be good for him to have the land and space to farm. He is quite the one to be proud of. I am sure you will also post about the others or have. Grandkids are great.

I have never had to bid on a home, I never could afford one, so I bought a half acre of land and put a Mobile Home on it, to me that was expensive but nothing near as expensive as a real house.

What a well-written post. I enjoyed it so much that I read it out loud to my husband, who was smiling from ear-to-ear before I even finished-he compliments you as do I. Alex sounds so focussed to what he wants, and working in his field he will probably be well-suited to making a lot of repairs that might be needed on out-buildings and machinery that he may own. Being able to retro-fit equipment and buildings is a talent all in its own. I'm sure that he will love the Keurig that you bring him. And if this offer doesn't get accepted, one will, the right one will.

Thank you so much. He didn’t win the bidding war but he just wasn’t willing to pay more than the property was worth. I am sure that with patience’s the right place will come on the market. In the meantime he can save even more

You have no idea how this is making me tear up, when he was first diagnosed it was frightening and we had real fear at one point that he might take his own life. God is so good, we know he saved Alex

It's a wonderful feeling to know you have a fine grandson. It shows you did an excellent job raising and instilling positive values in your own children. Love that old photo of your grandson in the stocks. Reminds me of my visit to Disney World where I struck the same pose
