Starfruit rojak

Malaysia

I got a basketfull of starfruit after a stroll around the house this morning. So I mademyself a bowl of starfruit rojak for light lunch. Nothing fancy, just tossing the chopped fruit with that thick caramelized rojak dressings. I got evening shift today, so until then, might as well juiced up those lovely fruits and freeze them.

If you can give more details about what you have prepared may be I can try. I did make jam some time ago We have a tree and the fruits just fall off - no takers.

@allknowing Too bad. I don't know other things that have similar taste to that paste. If you ever visit Malaysia or if anyone you know are going to Malaysia, you can ask them to buy it for you.

It is a simple snack. Or maybe salad? I don't know. Ingredients - starfruit ( both ripe and unripe ) , Petis ( a type of rojak dressings, usually black in color, taste like caramelized shrimp paste ) , sugar and peanuts for added texture. I washed the fruit and chopped them into bite-size. Then put them in my bowl, add a spoon of the rojak petis paste, a pinch of sugar and toss them. Lastly i found some peanuts, so i crushed the peanut and sprinkle on top. It is that simple. Petis is widely sold in my country, but I don't know about other country.

Thanks. Starfruit is a sweet and sour tropical fruit. On the other hand petis is caramelized shrimp paste. The combination of sweet and savory, it uplift your tasbuds. Rojak is a dish where you mix things. Like salad. No cooking needed.

@shaqziad1610 Ah! I have never heard of carmelized shrimp paste... but the sweet and salty combination sounds delightful! I now know a new word, I shall like using the word rojak....

We have a starfruit tree but it's too sour so we hardly give it ant notice, the fruits just fall to the ground.

The tree growing near my house is of the sweeter variety. So it taste sour and sweet, like green apple. If you had the sour variety, you can try pickling them in syrup. Or just juiced them up, and serve with sugar and ice.

How does it taste? I never dared to put anything to a carambola except dipping in salt.

The fruit itself is sweet and sour, like green apple. The rojak paste is sweet, salty and spicy. It taste refreshing on a sunny afternoon, after I chilled it for an hour in the refrigerator.
