My daughter is 2 and a half. She is ready to learn to use the big girl potty dang it! I should say mommy is ready for her to learn to use the big girl potty. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have bought a potty chair and traiing pants, now it's just time to figure out how to get her to associate them with going potty. She will sit on the potty chair as long as she isn't bored, but she never actually uses it if you know what I mean.

take her to the potty every hour...use incentives. i did, i took away all sweets and when my sons used the potty i'd give them a candy, something small like an M&M. and when he did it for the first time...i made a really big deal of it so he knew it was good to do that. i would also let them run around naked...you don't have to, but both times i potty trained my sons, it was summer and hott. i also put it in a place where it was easy for them to get to. then when he got the idea of using the potty, i moved it into the bathroom, and then on the toilet itself. it'll take time...it'll be frustrating, but you have to keep at it...oh, and get a carpet cleaner.

haha the carpet cleaner was one of the first things I bought when we decided to start trying to potty train. Right now she sits on the potty chair, but I swear she is "holding it" because when we give up after 45 minutes of her sitting on it, she gets a diaper on and then she almost immediately wets it.

it happens..she's just scared. give her some time and she'll get used to it. it only takes her once to figure out nothing is wrong then it'll come a whole lot easier

just introduce the potty chair, maybe buy a book about going potty kids will go when they are ready but introducing it and getting her used to sitting there is the key. maybe the two of you can read a potty book together while she tries. the one advice i can give being a parent and preschool teacher is not to push it on them but introduce it like you do colors or numbers, just another fun thing to learn. my daugther also enjoyed a video about going potty that we borrowed from the library. she is two and a half but has been trained since before she was two because she thought it was fun and wanted to do it. now she hates the pull ups which we still use at night but it is only because she doesn't like the way they feel now that she wears underwear all day. oh that is another thing taking her out to pick out and buy her own underware is also a good tool to use

Do you think at 2 and a half she is interested in panties and stuff? I am not trying to say you are wrong, I really just don't know... she is an only child so she doesn't really see another kid in them at all, and she really doesn't show any discomfort with her diapers. I bought her some "big girl panties" but she doesn't really wear them because she won't use the potty chair and one day we decided to do just the panties, no diapers, and she still waited til we put the panties back on and almost instantly wet them... she just doesn't seem to understand that she is supposed to use the chair and not her pants...

try putting her on there after she eats and when you see her going off by herself, then sit her on the potty and talk or read to her

She doesn't really have trouble with the sitting down part, I just don't know how to get her to understand that it is ok to pee in the little chair. She waits til we put the diaper back on. I think she is afraid she will get in trouble.

With my kids I remember we sat them down at regular times and gave them a big star on a chart when they did anything. It didn't seem to take too long from what I can remember, but it was a while back!
