Recycling food

I have to say Im very proud of myself. I have the no food waste thing down to a fine art now. Any leftover food from meals goes to my dogs if its suitable or out on the green at the front of my house for the urban foxes and all the remainder which is very little (veg peelings and egg shells) goes to make compost so my bin is empty most of the time and needs collection rarely. Has anyone any tips on reducing the amount of other recycling I have to do like packaging and paper and especially plastic and tins. I hate the amount of it I have every week. I do put them in a recycling bin but its full most of the time. Id love ways to reduce the amount of that packaging stuff I have from my shopping if anyone has any tips.

you are simply amazing. we reuse the cling wrap plastic by putting them properly on the roll. we can reuse to smaller leftovers like half cut onions and so on...

@kepweng ohhh for the left overs we don't have much because we only prepare the amount of food that we can consume. We don't that much because we don't have a ref/fridge. wooden reusable bags? never seen one yet. except for baskets.

@kepweng I don't really need to use bags. If anything we don't eat isn't used the next day it goes out to the urban foxes.

I think it's some EU-regulation that the store where you buy things have to take the packaging and recycle it, so you should be able to unwrap things in the store and leave the recycling to them. Not quite sure if it works though, but I've often done that for bigger items.

There is such regulation there? Cool! Recycling can be pricey sometimes, so if you can leave all the wrappers at the shop, that is really good.

I cook in batches, and froze them. Leftovers also got frozen. I just packed leftover meatballs from lunch, I will add them into my fried rice for breakfast tomorrow. The soup, it is essentially a beef broth, also frozen. Nothing wasted. I consumed my leftovers within a week. So I am proud of my leftovers management too. But I face the same problem with packaging, cans and bottles. I saw some Youtube videos where people bring their own container to shops and market. I think that is so cool, but people around here hasn't really open up to such idea. Thank you for discussing this concern. I might learn something here.

I lacked an idea of ??what to do to reduce it but usually I recycle it to a recycle place. In Indonesia there is a place to store used cans for their recycling. Personally I usually collect used cans and deposit them. The reward for me is getting extra cash.
