Love Me, Love Me NOW!

There is a canine who resides in my home. If you’ve been reading my discussions for any length of time you’ve probably bumped into a few references to Nessie our spoiled golden retriever. I am not a dog person. Nessie belongs to my husband. Normally, I’m more of a cat person. I like the independent feline personality and under ordinary circumstances the three felines that are allowed in my house only bother me to open and close the door and to make sure they have food when they are hungry. The three felines belong to the three children who still reside in the familial dwelling. Lately, Prim, the most emotionally unstable of our cat herd (she moved into the culvert under our street for three months when my husband first brought Nessie home) has been very demanding. Last night, when I went to bed, she hopped up beside me and pushed her furry little head under my hand and waggled it back and forth forcing me to pet her. Thankfully, she got bored with my lack of attentiveness and settled in the open window at the head of my bed where she spent the night. This morning, after my alarm summoned me out of bed after I had started fires in both heaters and brewed some coffee, I settled into an armchair in front of the fireplace to spend a few quiet moments reflecting and writing in my journal before my day began in earnest. Miss Primrose hopped up into my lap, draped her furry self over my journal, and once again forced her little noggin into the palm of my hand. She was bound and determined that I would pet her whether I wanted to or not. I conceded, but not without regret. After a few strokes, the fur began to fly. I love spring, but I’m really not very fond of shedding pets.

@nela13 she's been depressed in the past. Her behaviour is completely different then.

cats do seem to get more active in going all round the house when their fur is shedding - I think they know it too

I grew up with cats and dogs and love them all. Now, I only have two grand doggies and one grand kitty. Love your sweet photo. I would definitely give all the petting and love to Miss Primrose as she wants, and then some.

Pets are funny creatures aren't they? And cats are about the funniest of all. Funny as in 'odd', that is.

Cats can be like that..in my case, I am usually the one begging for affection. Nico keeps his distance for the most part, unless he decides cuddling with the human is in his wheelhouse for the day.

Prim used to come to get her ears scratched and then would settle down just out of reach...

I like cats and dogs but we have allergies to pet dandruff. My kids want a kitten so bad they can taste it. I cannot stand when the hair goes flying. It kills my allergies.

@SophiaMorros He must not be too allergic then. Of course, it is hard to deny our kids. The only reason we say no is because the twins have allergies and asthma. Not a good combo. Little Keith is even more allergic to cats than I am.

My husband is mildly allergic to cats but the silly man is responsible for every one that we have .

I brush my kittens every day. Hopefully they will not shed that much when brushed.

Miss Primrose is afraid of the brush and runs whenever someone tries to brush her. Until recently she would sit just out of reach of being petted as well.

I don't care for pet fur either. Our kitty is short haired and I don't notice a lot of shedding.

She's short haired as well but usually sheds pretty heavily for a week or two in the spring.

No cats in residence for the last 14 years....no dog for the last year and a half. The shedding pets are something I haven't missed. I still find a few stray hairs from our dog Fifi.

@SophiaMorros I find that shedding comes with the territory of having a pet. I love retrievers.
