We added two members to our family!

Mimi is about fifteen months old female Golden Retriever. We brought her home last December. We thought she was two years old but turns out she was born sometime in December 2017. She has been re-homed twice before. We are her third home. She is a super-friendly dog which makes it easy for her to assimilate. She kind of suffers from anxiety. It's not bad but it rears its ugly head every now and then. I can't blame her. Her first owner doted on her. Her second owner used to leave her alone whole day daily. Not just that, the first owner spoke one language while the second another. Neither bothered to teach her using English commands. Now she is in our household which has a third language. Talk about giving a whiplash to her. I don't get it why they didn't use English commands. It would have been easy for her no matter where she went. Anywhos... The second addition is my Bolt. He is an almost seven weeks old unknown dog breed (). Either Pomeranian Or Spitz. It's debatable. Nevertheless, he is my baby! Mimi is my brother's. Not that anyone could figure it out. His Mom fell sick after giving birth. So, they gave away the babies- 1 male and 3 females. We brought him home when he was two weeks old. My brother was very reluctant at bringing home such a young baby. They were giving him away at one week but he pushed for them to keep the babies for at least 45 days. In the end, he ended up bringing him home earlier than planned. When my brother arrived home, he said he became emotional on the drive back. He was upset at having to separate Bolt at such a young and vulnerable age from his mother. Then there was another reason that it was dreadfully cold. We were so worried and scared we would end up killing him. But we made it. Thankfully!!! I must say, Bolt has turned out to be one mischievous pup. Having them at home has been fun until now. Hoping it gets better! (Photo by Me. Mimi (left) and Bolt (right))

There's a CSN song that begins "If you smile at me I will understand/because that is something everybody does in the same language" (or something like that). For dogs, I suppose it's a scratch behind the ears, a butt scratch, and a ball to fetch.
Wooden Ships is a famous song by Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young. It was on their album So Far, and was one of their greatest hits. The lyrics are as follows...

Pony .. dogs can be really caring. They understand most of the feelings without a common language. If you are sad they will sit by you as if they are listening to you. At least Alsatians and Labradors are like that. Pomeranians are 24/7 365 days kids.

@TheHorse Or tummy rub. Mimi loves it. Bolt, on the other hand, does not like to be touched unless he wants to.

@Daljinder Recent news about goats makes your Bolt vary I suppose. LOL Kidding..my aunt said that to me when I was playing with her dog who invariably ended on my lap. It was a small thing..Pomeranian so I presumed it liked being on lap.

Third time is the charm and I love the pictures. My cat was abandoned twice and I hope to be her final home but she still does not understand that. I try to talk to her to let her know that I love her and she is my little one and I am her home but I have to keep doing it so hopefully one day she will understand.

@hannihar. Definitely! We are looking forward to having Mimi for her entire lifetime. We have no plans to give her up. I can understand what your cat is feeling. Mimi is the same. That is what I was talking about when I mentioned anxiety. She used to panic when my brother would leave for work or even go out of her sight. It has calmed down significantly. But still, the feeling sometimes pops up unexpectedly. I guess it will take time.

@Hannihar She probably wants attention. It is sad that abandonment affects pets too.

@Daljinder My cat sometimes cries even if I am in a room and I call her to come in and she calms down.

How would you manage in the house ... I mean it is still under construction, right? Or construction is over? Do you have yard for golden retriever to play about? They need plenty of space.. but the most friendly species I suppose. Do you get them vaccinated and neutered? One thing I don't like doing is getting dogs neutered. That is so selfish ..they can't have families of their own. Its better not to have dogs I feel. Nevertheless, you do need to look at that rabies thing. As to rest, I hope you will manage. Dogs can make you cry ..and cry badly...because they are so devoted.

@Daljinder Why was construction stopped? Am I missing something here?

@vandana7 no, construction is halted indefinitely. And there is no yard. We take them out late at night when there is no one around so they can get their daily run out of their systems. We weren't sure whether Mimi was vaccinated or not so we started hers anew. Meanwhile, she also got bitten by a stray she-dog so Mimi had to get anti-rabies course too. Hers is done until October when she will get her first booster shot, I think. Bolt's vaccination course is still continuing. No, we won't get Mimi neutered.

@vandana7 All the changes and demolishing has further weakened the house. Hence, need complete reconstruction. We are stuck now.

They are beautiful. Do they bunk together? When I had my Golden she helped me raise a kitten and a puppy, it's their nature to nurture.

When I take in a puppy and I have an older dog I let the older dog train the puppy, it usually works out for the best @Daljinder when older dogs growl and snap at a puppy it's to discipline them which is a good thing, it's how puppies learn.

@rebelann1949 Mimi stays in the hall room upstairs and Bolt in the bedroom upstairs. They spent quite a lot of time together. We separate them by keeping one upstairs and the other downstairs during the day to give them break from each other. Mimi does not get bothered. For her, it is more the merrier. But Bolt needs downtime every now and then or he becomes irritable and bite-y. I was kind of worried she might not deal with a pup. But my brother said she won't attack and she didn't. He introduced Bolt to her as she listens to him more. She has been seeing him as her playmate since then which we had to monitor initially in order to register for her to not use her full strength with him. She definitely scolds him with just a look or a growl and he takes notice. However, he does what he wants. I am wondering whether we would be seeing the power struggle between them?

What a lovely interesting post for your first venture back for a while. Puppies should really stay with their mother until thay are 8 weeks old so I can understand your brother's concern, and yours. I'm happy for you (and for Bolt) that he survived. Both he and Mimi look lovely.

@jabyUK Yeah that was our concern as well but being with her would have made him and his siblings sick as well. And the owner of the mother wasn't equipped to save all the babies. We are so glad that we brought him home.

@Aquitaine24 Yes, they are a smart breed. However, I think she is much too confused with moving multiple times and language. The anxiety and maybe fear of abandonment, she needs a break before re-learning everything.
