Adjusting to the changes in life?

"We can't stop the wind from blowing but we can adjust our sails!" I heard this saying a while back and liked it so much that I like passing it on. Does this saying resonate with you? Have you had to do some adjustments in your life? One can lose a job, a mate, a friend, one's health... Yes, life can throw sudden and unpleasant curveballs at us. Sometimes the winds can blow very hard. A skilled sailor works his sails so that instead of the wind stopping his progress, he adjusts them so that he can continue his journey and reach his destination, maybe a little haggard and weary, but he reaches his destination nevertheless. How are your skills at adjusting to the changes in life? What has been of real help to you?

That is a really good saying. Sometimes you just have to make adjustments and go with the flow.

Yes, at times adjustments are necessary. Of course, it's good that we have a destination or a goal in mind.

@1hopefulman If you don't have a goal you can go round and round in circles.

@LadyDuck Yes, there are times like that but I guess we are not the sort that give up as we are still here.

@1hopefulman Sometimes it's really hard, you would almost want to give up.

I looked at life as an adventure. I grew up in the country of NYS, went to college in Kansas and Missouri, met my husband there, we married and spent years moving around the mid west so my husband could get to where he wanted to be and he got there. Our last move was to Canada and we love it here. Our children are grown and all live in Canada. We are retired now but occasionally working too. I paint and sell my art in a store in a tourist area.

Mine are good now. I am flexible and will do with the flow. The real help is letting go and letting my faith over.

We keep learning and as we do so, we become more experienced in keeping the sailboat afloat!

Sometimes life change so quickly that it is very difficult to adjust but with time and patience we can do everything.

Yes, changes can happen quickly and unexpectedly. It is good to have knowledge and skills to overcome or learn to cope with adversities in life. God, family and friends can be a comfort to us in such times.

That's a good saying. I like it. For me adjustment or should I say the lack of adjustment around getting older has been interesting so far.

Life changes, and we have to ajust the best we can even if we have big problems.. It helps if we find something positive in what happens, even in negative things.. I have found that God can help us with that..

I learned today that when we have problems, instead of focusing on ourselves that if we focus on helping others then we feel better.

I agree to it 100%. Life really can become unpredictable that we must learn when to dodge or face head on what challenges it may bring along with you. It has so many unexpected surprises that you may meet some good and some bad so you just need to avoid the bad ones and welcome the good ones in your life.

I just adjusted to whatever came along that is what you have to do in life. I had good times and bad times and made it through all of them.

I've had to adjust my sails a few times. Positive thinking usually sees me through and faith in God.

Hmmmm It's good I read this... I am currently in this situation, where there are changes in the coming days and yes, I think I need to adjust my sails. Sometimes, it is hard for me to accept changes but I have to... I am a bit nervous but at the same time, I am excited of the outcome.

Very clever how you phrased being adaptable to different situations. In some areas I will make adjustments usually when what I'm doing is not working out (much like the sailor who adjusts those sails). In other areas, things like updating technology,ie; cell phones, TV's, text, e-mails things like that I am slow to change. This photo is how I sometimes feel about adapting to change and making adjustments to things in general....

Yes, we can't stop changes from happening. We have to accept changes when they come our way. However, it takes skill to turn a negative into a positive. If sailors on the old sailing ships didn't adjust their sails they would end up somewhere where they did not want to be.

I haven't yet...But actually I know I will face some challenge of changes in the near future. I'm gonna go abroad to start my university five months later. So hope I will adjust the total new environment and school...

Yes, there are challenges that will pop up, some expected and some unexpected, where you will have to adjust the sails so that you can keep going towards your goals. All the best!

I adapt pretty easily most of the time because I have faith that God will get us through as He has always done. =)

That's true. We don't have control over life but we need to adapt in order to survive.
