It's been a crazy weekend, so I haven't had much of a chance to post. So, here I am on day 25 of the music challenge. Since I am a baby boomer, obviously, I know tons of songs by musicians who have died, some very well known and some obscure.
So, true to form, I am going to select a lesser known artist for this challenge. His name is Steve Goodman, and he is better known for his songwriting than for his performing.
Steve Goodman was a folk-singer and songwriter from Chicago Illinois. He is best know for writing the song "The City of New Orleans," made famous by Arlo Guthrie. The proceeds from that song made it possible for him to live out his dreams.
He was diagnosed with Leukemia while he was in college. Living on borrowed time, he packed a lifetime into the years he had left.
He married, fathered children, toured, played music and wrote songs. I can't help but wonder what amazing things he might be doing today if he were still here. He died from leukemia on September 20, 1984 at the age of 36.
Goodman was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. "A Dying Cubs Fan's Last Request” is a humorous song he wrote for them. He also wrote "Go, Cubs, Go," which is played at Wrigley Field after Cubs wins. "A Dying Cub Fan's Last Request,” was considered too depressing.
This song had a resurgence in attention after the Cubs won the World Series on November 2, 2016.

@norcal It's fun to discover great artists that I did not know about! Of course, I had heard the City of New Orleans song many times but recorded my other artists.

@1hopefulman Right, Arlo Guthrie had a big hit with that song. Steve Goodman sang it very well too though.
