I Did Something Stupid Today

I didn't feel like taking a shower today, I was in the pool yesterday and had a shower there so I just wanted to wash my hair. I can't use my tub with the hose that I have for doing my hair so I decided I would wash it in the shower but only wet my hair, shampoo and rinse it. I got the shampoo on and then had to lean in to rinse it. I don't even know how it happened but I ended up falling into the shower.
I was sitting on the floor with water coming on me and still in my jammies. I was a little stunned. Not really hurt but I have bad knees and getting off the floor can be a challenge. I did manage it and just took a shower to rinse my hair but I was rather shaken by the whole thing. Getting old certainly isn't for sissies!! lol
I was going to help my daughter with the butter braid fundraiser at Jack's school and when she called and asked if I wanted her to pick me up I jumped at the chance. I didn't want to drive.
Kasey and I and her husband John put together the orders in no time and I feel fine but a little silly. I usually have quite good balance. Have you done anything stupid lately? Hopefully not. lol

I´m going to have my bathtub taken out and change it for a shower where I can shower with no problem. I will have bars placed and later on, if needed, I´ll have a chair too.

I think if I had a bar it would have helped but I am not sure that I can put one on the material that my shower is made from. o

I wash my hair sometimes in the kitchen sink. I have one of those taps with the hose that pulls out a bit. I have a bath with over shower so I would probably fall in too!! I have a bad back and its easier to use the sink as its higher so less bending over the bath. Many years ago when we didn't have the luxury of showers we used to all wash our hair in the kitchen sink with a big bowl or something to rinse the suds off.

I should have just used the kitchen sink, I just didn't think of it but I will be more careful in the future.

Okay, I have to adopt that line of yours, "Getting old is not for sissies!!" I love it! I'm sorry you fell in but so glad you did not get hurt! I have bad knees too and I know how that feels to land on them after a fall or trip.
I haven't done anything in the "silly" department in a while now. I guess I'm due for one soon :(

No nothing really dumb lately. Yes, it can be dangerous just to lean over to do something like washing hair. I always carefully climb into my tub, turn on the shower and then wash my hair and all. I even take small steps getting out. I have a small bathroom and I can just picture myself hitting my head against the sink so I have a rubber mat in the tub and a long mat on the bathroom floor.

I'm always afraid of falling especially in the shower. I would also have a terrible time trying to get up if I tell anywhere since I can't kneel on my knees any more.
Glad you didn't hurt yourself and you're really lucky.

Luckily I recently bought a thick contour rug for the toilet and it was still sitting on the edge of the tub, I doubled it and was able to kneel enough to stand up, I felt terribly foolish that's for sure.

@BelleStarr good thing the rug was handy for you to kneel on. One of my biggest fears is falling and having to need help to get back up.

Seniors do have problems getting up from a fall. There are several youtube videos with guidance I am careful as I too will have problems getting up.

I'm sorry for the fall you had! =( Last week I foolishly walked on a freshly mopped floor and fell too. Thank God I only had a small bruise from it!

No it wasn't my feet were not in the shower, they had slippers on and were outside the shower, I fell forward into the shower. Really a balance issue I think not a slipping one.

@BelleStarr It can definitely provide a little emotional shock when something like that happens. Just be glad that you are okay. Hopefully, you'll shake it off in a day or two.

Yikes! So glad you weren't hurt. It sounds more like an accident than a stupid thing.
I do stupid things all the time it seems. Last week I couldn't move fast enough and got my hand slammed with a tennis ball, but I'm here to tell about it.

So glad you're alright after your little fall. You must have had a wonderful time with your daughter. You know what I have UHC, United Health Care and one of our benefits is PERS, Personal Emergency Response System for people living alone, but we got to get via our doctors who have to special request it, so I'm going to ask my doctor about it very soon...do you have anything like this benefit? Living alone and retired isn't ideal, but I like it. One thing I like about PERS, is that on commercials they got a little key holder by your door, for them to use that's safe to have, knowing my relatives who got my key is about 30 min. drive away and my resident manager lives near by, but when every second counts you'd like the EMS people to get in quickly to help you.

It's in the benefit section of our little manual or plan explanation they send us. I called customer service, and they tell me your doctor has to send in a pre-authorization for it. Oahu has 4 carriers for PERS. I will call my doctor soon after I research which carrier I'd like...I like a mobile one with falling detection too, so I'll research a little than when I'm ready I'll be calling my doctor to see what she tells me about my situation and PERS. The customer service said she doesn't know much more than the qualifiers, except one that is you got to be living alone. So I'll see and have fun researching information. Going to UHC site too to see information if any. Good luck!

You peeked! The other morning before six I managed to trip on nothing and twist my "good" knee and get a rug burn on my trick knee, also while still in jammies. Must be the jammies that are doing it.

lol not lately, I have hung my head over in the shower a few times. I can't do it for long because it hurts my knees and I don't like getting water up my nose.
