What is Kratom?

There are many "natural" pills and so called vitamins out there on the market that are not safe. A lot of people buy them because they are natural. Please make sure you and your family research some of these "wellness" products being sold to many college dorms and to the general public.
I just read an interesting story about Kratom. I heard a story on the news that many are dying after taking this product. It is NOT FDA approved.

Not sure if you have heard of this product but it can be deadly. Trying to spread the word about some of the dangers out there in this crazy world.
Have you heard of Kratom? Do you take natural vitamins and other "wellness" products?
My college-age son called me recently and asked me about “kratom,” saying that it was all over campus and even some of his friends were trying it.

@enlightenedpsych2 Yes but if some of the ingredients are potentially fatal, I am not taking it, and will only do under the advise of my doctor. Just because it's natural doesn't impress me until I know what it is.

@enlightenedpsych2 I agree, and that is not right because I am only addressing Kratom in this article. There is always both good and bad with everything.

I have an online friend who has taken this in the past. I believe she said something about it being restricted in her state now. She finds it helpful for pain. However, as you say, people taking it for the opioid like effects and who think that "more is better" often put themselves in danger. It is important to get the facts about things before you consume them and before you combine them with other things. Even over the counter medicines can hurt you, or even be addictive. I am afraid we are going to here more and more about people injured or killed by readily available "supplements".

It is foolishness to consume anything without either consulting a doctor or doing some research

That is not good news at all. I hope that if anyone considers taking it they will first read all they can about it. I am one of those people who are lucky to not need any medications and because of that I am even wary of taking things like plain old ibuprofen but I do have a box at home just in case.

Thanks for the information and to @rebelann1949 for suggesting the discussion. These things are so worrying but kids/people seem ready to believe anything.
