Home made pimento cheese....yum!

Do you like pimento cheese? In case you're not familiar with it, it's made with grated sharp cheddar cheese, cream cheese, mayonnaise, sugar, pimentos (of course!) and a few drops of hot sauce. Years ago I would buy it ready made in the grocery store and doctor it up some, but then I discovered how easy it is to make my own. And it's a gazillion times better! I've made it for years now and it's a very popular spread in Charleston, SC. I think they'd make it an official SC dish if they could! I just made a batch to have on sandwiches, with crackers, maybe even on a hamburger? Not sure about that last one. Do you ever make your own pimento cheese spread (if you even like it, that is)? If you're in another part of the world from the US, do you make anything similar?

Not really, not really a fan of cheese. Do prefer salty biscuits to it.

Yes and I love this stuff but I have to be careful and not eat too much dairy.

I'm not a big fan of it but enjoy it a couple of times during the year for a "change." I think the homemade version would be very good and I would have never thought of it if not reading your post here. Kudos :)

I haven't made it, but it is pretty good. It's good on celery too.

Yes I like pimento cheese, but without sugar and mayo. I make pimento cheese at home, because it's not available here.

@1creekgirl I use cheddar cheese shredded, softened cream cheese, diced pimentos, a bit of salt, some drops of Tabasco, a bit of Greek yogurt.

@LadyDuck Oh, the yogurt takes the place of the mayo. Sounds good.

Home made is so much better. Well, I guess it depends on how it's made!

Yes, I remember my mom making it when I was a kid. No cream cheese in her recipe though.

I don't care for the taste of it. My question was how do you make it; but I see that you answered it below!

My husband doesn't care for it, so I'll end up eating most of it unless I can give some away.

I've never had it. There is a recipe for it in my Margaritaville cookbook so I will get around to trying it eventually.
