Review: Beyonce's "Homecoming"

So, seeing as I'm house-sitting and they have Netflix - I put on Beyonce's film "Homecoming"
The dog prefers background noise as do I. So I thought this would be nice to have on as I was interested in it, but not intensely so.
Lauded as a "film", and as a cultural phenomenon - I was curious about it, and to learn more about Beyonce's current music - having liked some of her older hits.
Maybe I was having false expectations. When I see "film" I assume "movie" or "documentary". If I had to categorize it - I would call it a concert experience. Most of it was concert footage (which is fine and all) - with a few quotes and behind the scenes sequences. I must say that Beyonce's current style of music isn't what I'm into personally. Though I was impressed by the marching band, drum line and the number of dancers. I also liked that Beyonce, while being very captivating and dancing, focused mostly on singing , leaving the most complex dancing to the dancers. That is how I would like it. Let the singer focus mostly on singing.
Now, keep in mind - I had it on in the background as I was doing other things, so maybe I missed something, but I was expecting it is be about black culture, black issues.... stuff of which I admit I don't know much. And while there were a few sentences about black pride... there wasn't much more. (Unless, of course, I missed it. Entirely possible)
I was a little unsure how the homecoming / sports / marching band feel of the concert tied in to black culture. (Sure, black folks participate in this in high school, but so do White, Asian, Hispanic, etc...) -- Beyoncé wore a costume that had a head-dress like an African Queen might wear which I thought was beautiful, and Beyoncé is a highly successful lady with some black heritage, all of that is true, but I didn't hear much about the black culture or community like I was hoping I might.
I enjoyed Beyonce's sharing with the audience about feeling vulnerable as well.
So not a bad watch. Better if you really like the music. This song is alright:
Here's a song of her's that I like :

I think she's such an overrated singer.
I mean, she's good... But c'mon!

True. People often commend her with being so great - as a singer, dancer, beauty.
She is very talented and she is very beautiful, but I agree.
If a common person off the street had so many teams of professionals working on them for extended amounts of time they'd probably look pretty great too

@WiseGhots Very true. In fact I wish that would get televised - take some common/average person off the street and then have a crew of professionals work on them for hours and show us the finished product

I wonder if she's feeling old. The homecoming, high school theme might be an attempt to feel younger.

@FayeHazel I wouldn't like to repeat the living conditions but I would like to be that young again.

@xander6464 Hm. That's interesting. True I wouldn't mind the endless energy, and the flexibility. Ah to return to the days where I thought old folks would say they could feel the weather were crazy.

Good point … seems like a lot of people regress to reminiscing about their highschool days when they are feeling old. Though, to be honest - I'm not sure why. I know I would never, ever, ever, want to return to my highschool era. No thank you.

I am not a Beyonce fan so I won't mind skipping it.

I don't know a lot more about her. Liked some of her early hits. I can appreciate her hard work in putting on a large show, but mostly - I don't understand the hype

I like the idea that you and the dog like to have Beyonce on as background music. lol
I have tinnitus, so background music helps me from going insane.
I wasn't aware that Beyonce had made a film, but I have watched plenty of her music videos. That doesn't just help with the tinnitus but has other health benefits I believe due to raising my heartrate. It's like I am doing a workout without actually working out. Bonus.

Lol. I think the dog is just happy to not have to hear traffic or other dogs, people walking by. lol.
Oh no. Tinnitus must suck. What do you usually have for background noise.
Yeah, it was pretty cool. I admit, I like her older stuff better, but it was a neat concert/film experience thing.

For sure. I think she's cool, but a lot of the new music just doesn't grab me
