Nobody Cared

She spent Easter with her family. She has two sons who are married, each with a small child. She went to spend the day at one of their houses. They were all there. After Easter, she never went out of her house. She was all alone. No one noticed the mail starting to pile up. Nobody thought that the dogs not going out for a week was strange. The neighbors knew that she was a widow. Her husband died from cancer caused by Agent Orange in Viet Nam. They knew that the sons lived some distance away. Her son came to check on her because he could not reach her. He found her in the living room. We don't know how long she was there or which of her health problems spelled the end. Please, if you have elderly neighbors or those who live alone, check to see if they are okay. You may just save a life or comfort someone who is hurting.

@akalinus How shocking!! A mother of two sons die unattended .A similar incident had taken place in our town in 2004.

I could scarcely believe it. The boys have jobs and kids and one lives several hours away and the other is not close either.

@Shivram59 I am hoping that it was rather sudden and she did not have a lot of time to think about it. There is no evidence that she tried to call anyone or leave her house.

@akalinus It's very shocking.I'm trying to guess what must be going on in her mind in the last moments.

@resukill22 It makes me really sad. No one expected it, she was in her early 60s and not sick.

Yes, that's right. I went to a sunrise service and a breakfast on Easter but was alone the rest of the day. She had a day with loved ones so I am glad for that.

@BelleStarr You were not alone and spent time with loved ones and spent time celebrating the reason we have Easter. These are all happy things.

this's so sad'n happens way more'n most folks know. what really bothers me 'bout this'd be when the neighbors're interviewed 'n they claim they'd realized they'd not seen said neighbor, but didn't bother to check'n 'em.

@akalinus bless her 'n those pups, too! can't e'en imagine the stress they went through. oh, the neighbors interviewed'n the case i wrote'f 'twas by the t.v. station - not the police. that poor woman 'd been gone fer months..... 'n the neighbors'd said they'd visit with 'er daily 's she 'twas always out'n her yard when they got home from work. 'd been doin' so fer 3 yrs (since they'd moved there), so i 'twas most disheartened they'd not bothered to check'n her 's they knew she'd no family.

The medical examiner said it was a heart attack or stroke so there won't be any more investigation. They won't be interviewing the neighbors but they know who they are.

Things like this one happen quite often . Unfortunately we get caught in our small "dramas" and what we call life and we forget about others.

She was an extended family member and it made me sad and then sadness turned to anger.

@akalinus I know the feeling, I've been there. But I saw these things happening over and over again, people care less and less.

@Kasjnak Maybe it is because we only interact on the internet anymore. I'm just sorry that there was no one to hold her hand, utter a prayer, or say comforting words. That is a special kind of loneliness.

How sad to die all alone and for nobody to notice for a while. Awful for the son to find her that way.

That's a sad story. I'm sorry for the family and the son who found her when he checked on her. Is this a true story?

Absolutely, it is true. They are having calling hours Monday. Two of my kids will be there. The Medical Examiner had to hold her body until his investigation was complete.

@just4him Not many people showed up. They are mostly all gone. One of my kids had medical appointments he could not reschedule and the other could not get a ride. Her whole family is gone, mom, dad, two brothers, and husband. She only has two sons and two granddaughters.
