Finally a Little Color

I finally got to clean up my garden and get rid of those ugly Yucca plants that were in it. I felt like I was living in a desert with no color, just rock and Yucca plants which grow these long sticks out of them, flower for a wk and then are just left with that dried up stick in it.
There were three of them and I dug out two but was told I had to leave the third one in the garden so it will sit in the corner until I trim it enough to hopefully kill it and plant another rose bush in its spot. Right now there is a rose bush I planted last year, 2 Calla Lillies, Butterfly bush, the orange ones and pink ones I can't remember the names. I am hoping the Butterfly Bush will grow quickly and have lots of blooms.
The rocks I have in here were all from my gardens in CO, I brought them with me when we moved. Some are from the silver mine in Leadville, others are from the mountains.
Now I can start on the two gardens I want in the back yard to get some color back there.
Have you started your gardening yet?

Is that a Mickey and Minnie bird bath? Your garden looks lovely. Nice job!
I don't have a garden, although I guess there is some room in the front of my house where I can plant something. I have a huge bluff oak growing in my front yard, so it shades my entire yard. My back yard opens into a small meadow, and then a forest that leads down to a creek.

@cintol I doubt my daughter would be interested in gardening. She's not the type that likes being outdoors. But she is a huge Disney fan, so maybe if I convince her to create a Mickey garden she might actually go for it!

@moffittjc Thats how I got my grand daughter to do her garden, we made a fairy house out of an old plastic farmhouse and she turned her whole little garden into a fairy garden. Its really cute Tried to add a pic but it won't let me.
I love that your daughter loves Disney, I have 7 bins upstairs full of Disney collectibles. She could make such a cool little garden.

Why yes it is, everything I do has to have a little Mickey in it lol. Thank you, It looks better than it did.
You should clear a little spot and have your daughter help you plant a cute little garden. I did a fairy garden with my grand daughter at her house. I remember you telling me about the forest in your back yard and the baby gator!!

I don't have a garden to speak of, just a little backyard with red bricks at apt. home, so I buy potted plants. Got a nice one from Lowes a starter flowering dhalia that is still growing after a month, so I'm quite happy about it. The little plant gives me flowers daily! I buy starter little flowering pots so cheap. If I get a bunch of cut flowers they can go for 4.99 to 11.99 and only last a week, too expensive for me. I got aloe and broadleaf plantain growing for it's medicinal usages too all in pots.

I love Dahlias, they are so pretty. Its nice that you can get the potted plants even in an apt. Doesn't just a little bit of color brighten everything up, I need that color. I love Aloe plants too, I keep meaning to buy one and forgetting. I will need to get it for the sunburns that I know are coming this summer for the kids. I'm with you, some of those plants are so expensive. I just planted seeds to grow an Angel Trumpet bush, fingers crossed that it grows.

@oahuwriter Me too, thanks. I have written myself a note so I will get my aloe plant this weekend. Do you get a lot of gnats with the indoor plants?

I hope your little plant grows nicely and you remember your aloe plant. Flowers really brighten up my home and gives a fresh feeling to home too. The Sun is very strong so I like aloe products too.

@cintol They are purple. One good thing about this rain, it should make the ground soft enough to put my plant hanger in deeply.. It is in the ground now..but wouldn't take any weight

lol As much as I am going to do, I might buy a few garden ornaments but I am not into gardening these days. I did plant all the bulbs last fall and I will plant more this fall so I have color next spring.

Yes Janet, for some reason he likes this ugly plant and wouldn't let me remove it. Color is so much better than blah and thats what this garden was when I moved in, I put a pic of the before on Fayes comment. Thanks, I love my rocks and these were specially picked where ever we went so I brought them with me. I thought they would look good here in my garden as these plants should spread out and get larger as they grow.

@DianneN
I wish we had blooms all year round but I will settle for what I have. Hopefully all of mine will come back next year and I won't have to replant anything. I understand the deer proof flowers, my mom has to do
that in the mountains where she lives. She gets so depressed when she plants and they eat them for lunch! lol

Thank you Dianne, it was hard because they had all the river rock in there and under that is a thick mat to keep weeds out, plus there is a sprinkling system in there as well that I had to try not to puncture. I would like to put one more rose bush in the back on the right to even it all out but its a lot of work getting to the dirt (clay) under that mat.
Isn't it nice enough to plant there yet or are you talking about when you go back to your other home?

@Nakitakona Yes they are, I had a little waterfall at my last home and I had all my roses and different flowers planted all up and down with a swing chair at the bottom I could sit in. It was so peaceful there so I am hoping I can get them to grow here just as well.

Thats nice Jeffrey, I love sitting in the garden and just looking at the flowers. I used to have a little waterfall and a pond at my old house, wish I had one here, very relaxing.
