Life has meaning again for The Horse!

As some of you know, I love projects. Even if they're tiny projects, they give my life meaning in the moment. This morning, I had to bring my guitar amplifier in from my truck to make room for hauling wine and other goodies to the BBQ we're having to raise money for Martinez Early Childhood Center. I noticed that a corner brace had broken off, so I decided to fix it, using the same glue I use on guitars. It's basically extremely powerful "super glue." I'll attach a picture of the broken corner, the piece I had to glue in, and the super glue I used. The fix took all of five minutes, but it gave my life meaning in the time I was doing it. Do you have odd things that give your life meaning--things that motivate you into action?

This repair went well. I still have a bit of work to do on my Martin D-18.

When I learn that my adult children need something I take action. I jump to head out of town to babysit my oldest daughter's 4 kids when needed in the summer, take food to the daughter who is not currently working and always help out with 3rd daughter with her 2 kids and help her out when she is short on money. They are all my heart :)

I wouldn't say it gave my life meaning, but I did manage today to finally plant the raspberry canes I got on Sunday.

@TheHorse Raspberries grow on woody stems called canes.

@TheHorse My theory is that you being President Of India has something to do with that. They don't want to be sent to an Indian version of a Siberian Gulag.

@xander6464 That's a good point. Now where in India would such a place be?

I think there are a few members, mostly from Europe, who want me kicked off the site. For some reason, Indians are more tolerant of my antics.

I think that's an essential part of life. I hate being bored, and I need "goals."

@TheHorse 5 dogs, 8 cats not counting strays, 5 goats, 4 horses, 8 ducks, and I am not sure without counting on the chickens. How many are you wanting

I should spend a day throwing stuff out here. I got rid of a few pounds a week ago. Right now I'm sitting here.

Fixing broken things is my all-time favourite, most satisfying activity. Not so much just sticking things together, but making things work that had stopped working. You can't beat that feeling of achievement!

@TheHorse have you ever read 'The Case for Working with Your Hands: Or Why Office Work is Bad for Us and Fixing Things Feels Good' by Matthew Crawford. I kind of feel like I could have written something along the same lines. Except the author is rather smug about his life, and lucky in having the security and salary of a professorship that allows him to pursue his hobby as his second job. Nevertheless he makes some good points.

@Fleura I'm as much of a jerk as he is. I am a psychologist by trade, and fix things on the side. But I see his point. There is something immensely satisfying about working with material objects and fixing them. I have not read his book.

I agree. I tried to fix my own disposal but failed. But I'm pretty good with bicycles when things go wrong. And my work on "aesthetically challenged" speakers is "legendary." I do also sometime replace drivers (woofers and tweeters) and capacitors in silent speakers. That's really satisfying.

That must be strong glue, I do find things that give my life more meaning. I enjoy painting, journaling, sewing and reading especially. I'm still not feeling well but I got my quilt out and worked on it this evening. I don't know if it made me feel better but at least I felt like I'd done something useful.

Super glue works magic but once it sticks on your fingers you hate the thing

Very true! But I intentionally put a bit on my right index and middle fingers last weekend when I had to play bass for two straight four hour gigs (Friday and Saturday nights). No blisters!
