Hello everyone. I hope you are all well. I am not too bad. I've had a really fantastic weekend (yes, another one, I am a very lucky girl). On Friday, I went out for drinks and a curry with some work friends for a leaving do. My friend Cat is leaving. Her last day is tomorrow. We went out Friday because it was a Friday and a payday! Anyway, that was fun but not very interesting to talk about.
Saturday, that was awesome. I could write a whole post about it but I will keep it brief. I might write an article or review elsewhere if I get around to it. I went to see Showaddywaddy. If you don't know who they are then you need to look them up. We were third row from the front. I was with my two sisters, my youngest son, and my little niece. My son looked like he wasn't enjoying himself but that's just his 'average teen boy face'. He did say he enjoyed it. My niece, on the other hand, was a-rockin' an' a-rollin', singing along to lots of songs, and dancing in her cute little poodle rockabilly dress. We'd gone as it was a present from me to big sister for her birthday.
Sunday, big sis @dorypanda had a barbecue at her house. That was great. We had food and music and family. Oh, and my big nephew passed his driving test on Thursday so that was brilliant as well. He came to pick us up and take us to my sister's (even though we only live 10 minutes round the corner).
Now, for the title piece - ARCHERY! I love archery. This was only my third time doing it. It was something I'd always wanted to try but couldn't find anywhere. I did go to an archery day with some family last year. That was alright but just for fun. Then, about a month or so ago, I got in touch with a local archery group who happened to have an open day. I went to the open day and signed up for their beginners' course.
It wasn't easy finding the information. I had seen random posters previously but not been able to get there before. It's only up the road from me so that's great too. What's a bit less great is that I work in the city which is much further away! If I'm home, I can walk to archery in 20 minutes. If I'm at work, the bus could take over an hour. I'm going to have to experiment with the buses. The earlier one goes into town so I then have another 20 to 30 minute walk. The later one goes nearer to archery so I'll have to see which one is best.
I was already getting excited about it. I'd been looking for a hobby for a while. I had to give up the gym because of not being able to get there (which is a shame because I really enjoyed it). I also wanted something that I could improve upon and perhaps even enter competitions. Archery can offer all of that.
There were 6 people doing the course, and there were 4 instructors. The way we were shown how to hold the bow was slightly different from how I'd been shown before. It was alright, though. I did quite well once I'd got my stance and technique right. I grouped the arrows well but they grouped to the left of the target. I need to work on getting them in the centre. We did 'bare bow' archery - that's basically just using a bow and arrow, free range, and using your eyes to focus. Next week, we'll be using sights. I might do a little better with that.
The course is every Monday evening for four weeks. After that, I can join the club. I am definitely going to do that.
My hands and back are a little achy but not much more than usual! We were told to expect aches in places we didn't know we had. I guess I'm used to aching all over with having done weight-lifting and things!
Well, I am still somewhat excited. In general and for next week's archery. I'd also love to go abseiling again but the nearest place is a little far away (and expensive). Next year, I am hoping to go to Zip World in Wales with my best friend. Oh, and I have got a ghost hunt, my first holiday abroad, and the little matter of my wedding coming up.
Tell me about your hobbies. Do you have unusual ones? Anything you've always wanted to do but not yet done?
The picture is of me, taken by my eldest son because he came to archery when he realised he had forgotten his house key!

@nela13 Sorry, I misread your comment as 'visual' rather than 'very usual' !! It's not that common here either. There are one or two holiday parks that offer it but it's rare to find an actual group or courses.

My goodness, you certainly have a busy life! Except for writing, I no longer have any hobbies. Had to give up crafting and needlework because of arthritis. Good luck with the archery.

My life isn't always so busy! It seems that everything happens all at once. There is more fun - and more spread out - than it used to be. I used to do nothing for ages and then loads of things happening on the same day. Now, I am usually the one to make plans and I want to do everything!
It's a shame you had to give up your crafting and needlework. I have a temporary hold on my own needlework until a) I have some time in between everything else and b) the weather improves enough for the cat to stay outside long enough for me to do anything! I started making a hat for my first granddaughter. It's nowhere near finished and granddaughter number 3 is due in August!
Thank you. I think archery is going to be my thing now. :)

@pumpkinjam That's funny about the cat. Play with the yarn does he/she? lol Yeah, that hat is long overdue! Keep us posted on the archery...well, anything in your life!

That's wonderful that you have developed such an interest in archery! As I've mentioned in another of your posts, many years ago I trained to be an Olympic archer. It was very grueling and tiring, but I was very passionate about it. That was back when I was a teenager. Unfortunately, I was not good enough to make the Olympic team, and then I lost my passion for it when I went off to study at the university and my new passions became girls and parties!
An Olympic archery training center recently opened in our community, and I had the opportunity recently to visit and pick up a bow and shoot again for the first time in years. It was fun, but it didn't rekindle my passion like I thought it would. Perhaps it's because my current passion is professional paintball.
I hope you continue to enjoy the sport, and continue to practice and get better and better!

I do intend to get better. Not sure I'll get to Olympic standard but I would like to be good enough to compete in local competitions.
I've been through all of those phases so no distractions for me except, perhaps, another shiny new hobby that looks exciting and dangerous!

@pumpkinjam I like your spirit of adventure! Keep an open mind and be on the lookout for shiny, new hobbies to attract you in the future, and then follow your heart and pursue them! Life is meant to be an adventure!
And good luck with archery! It's such a fun sport!

That's something else I'd love to do. There is a place not too far from me (although, without a car, it's a bit tricky to get to). I did enquire about lessons, etc. but they only did public sessions at a time I was doing something else. It's certainly still on my list for when I get the opportunity.
