Do You Volunteer For Things You Really Are Not Capable Of?

I know this person with way more physical limitations than I have, even with all the pain I am enduring right now, that really wishes and wants to do things like a normal person does. The only problem is she does not drive, and due to using a walker to get everywhere cannot really get many places unless someone takes here somewhere. I know she means well, but making promises to help out somewhere or do something and then having to Cancel all the time is not good either. That is one of the main things that Stops me is my Disability and I am sure there are many others here. Do you Volunteer or plan for things easily, or go day by day due to the limitations with your Health? ~~TINA~~

I am so busy with grand kids all the time that I don't have time for anything else, sometimes I wish I did. Sounds like she means well but maybe when she volunteers someone should politely tell her that they would love to have her if she can make it and not count on it.

That is so True... I know I have to make sure and not have others relying on me or counting on me unless it is last minute and I know I am up for it

When I was young and able to do physical work more I would loved to join volunteer work and enjoyes it very much but as I grew older the enthusiasm has lessened already since I feel physically down after the event ends and yeah illnesses follows after that which dampened my energy already since I have aged already and prone to getting sick easily.

I can relate. That is why at least for now, I have to be very cautious in what I volunteer to help with, and make sure before hand it is something I can do within my means.

Sometimes I do, but it's at times I think it's time to push things. After all, if I never test my limitations I won't know when I've improved. Most of the time I do fine, though I might need time to recover from it. However, there are times I push it a bit too far and it reminds me I just can't do everything I used to. To me, the worst part of my condition is I can't be as reliable as I want to be.

Yes that is why a lot of times I know my limitations right now when it comes to walking. I know that many things I cannot do right now even though I want too.

Volunteering for something beyond our limitations could be disastrous both for us and the person or entity we are trying to help. Good intentions are good so long as they are realistic. By God's grace I still don't have limitations in a practical sense.

Yes I agree. Glad so far there is nothing impacting what you can do.

I humbly say that I volunteered of being capable of. It is not good to help others if not well-equipped on certain skills.

@KrauseHome Let me share my work as a volunteer before. It was a never-ending story.
As a human, we have our own passion and interest. I was teaching Korean students in one of the biggest academies in the city. Then, I had acquainted with my...

I often wish I could say that. Hoping that they can solve some of the issues with my legs with this next surgery coming up to where I can do more.

I wish I could do more. I feel so bad not doing more at church, but I can't. My knees will not allow it. Standing long periods of time is not an option for me. I was more active when I was younger. 20 years ago.

I hear you when it comes to wishing you could do more. I would Love to be able to help out with Sunday School again. But there is no way I can tolerate stairs to even be able to consider it

Same here, especially since I don't drive and know that limits me in what I am able to do

If it’s online I can do the task but if included physical motion and actions, nope, I wo’t promise myself to volunteer.
