We Didn't Celebrate the 4th of July

No, we are not protesting, last year we had a wonderful cookout with my daughter and her family with all the boys including my son in law enjoying the pool. My mother also turned 103 on the 4th of July.
My mom died in September so this is the first 4th of July in my life that she wasn't in it. Which was hard for me but more than that is the fact that my son in law has been in the hospital for over 30 days.
On Tuesday night he was transferred from Hartford Hospital to Yale New Haven. We need some new eyes to look at his case. After all this time there is no definitive diagnosis. The NIH looked at the results of his lung biopsy and did not see lymphoma. Hartford insists that it is lymphoma.
It may end up being lymphoma but last weekend Hartford tried to pressure my son in law into a dangerous procedure that could have left him permanently on a ventalator, he refused. The risk was too high, this is Jacks's father, he has 5 sons and they need their father and my daughter needs her husband.
We used some connections we had to arrange this transfer. Hartford fought it at every turn. It was horrible. But it did happen and he and my daughter like their new doctors and the staff has been very nice even though it is the holiday.
I have been helping out where I can, keeping Jack overnight, and being a support to them. It has taken up my life for the last month and a half and it has knocked the stuffing out of all of us.
If you believe in prayer, please keep all of us in your prayers. We just want a diagnosis, so that treatment can start.

The hospital change was the best thing you could have done.
I moved my sister from one, doctor and hospital, in Anniston that said she would die without a liver transplant, I sent her to Birmingham. Once there all she needed was food. Yes its always a fight.
Prayers its something simple that was overlooked.
As far as I know, had a nephew with lymphoma, that this usually shows up first in the groin or neck lymph nodes.

I remember that you celebrate your Mom's birthday last year, I think to remember a sweet photo of her, I know you miss her. I am really sorry for your son in law. He did the right thing to refuse. Before trying something dangerous, it is a lot better to ask a second opinion, even a third if needed. I wish him the best and I send you good vibes.

@LadyDuck I think in the end the surgery will be necessary but I hope he can survive it.

i know that feeling.in my case, our hospital insisted on sending him to massachusetts
for his heart attack-and kept trying to send me to network doctors up there for his recovery appointments.they knew damn well it was a hardship for me to get there.
but it seemed like the rhode island hospital just doesn't want to deal with heart failure patients anymore.

If it was Mass General they are a great hospital, we tried to get John in there but didn't hear back until after he had moved to New Haven. It is not convenient for my daughter but we want the best doctors available. Now with the follow-up, it seems they should have tried to find easier ones for you to get to.

@DaddyEvil Wow that really is a bummer. Not that I like fireworks, I don't but still to be forced to stay indoors is not good.

@BelleStarr You're welcome.
We haven't celebrated the 4th of July the last two years... It turns out I am allergic to the smoke given off by the fireworks. Around the 4th I stay in the house and set the air conditioner to recirculate the air without pulling in more from outside... The air should be cleared enough by tomorrow for me to be able to go back to work... I hope!

Sending prayers for your son in law, you and your family. I know how you feel with helping out. I have had my mom here for the last month and I'm worn out totally. I suspected she had dementia and we finally got the diagnosis. We have started treatments but there are several doctors involved and a lot of dr. appointments now.

We are pretty sure that the diagnosis is not going to be good but once they identify it they can start to treat it and that makes us hopeful.

I can sure understand how hard this 4th is for you and your family with the concern about your son in law and missing your mom.
My prayers are added to all the others for God's healing touch for your son in law, for wisdom for the doctors, and comfort and strength for all of you.

Thank you, I think now we want prayers for the skill of the doctors, they are going to be discussing the procedures that want to perform tomorrow with my daughter and her husband. He is one of the best thoracic surgeons in the state.

Good call on the hospital change. Sometimes the best thing we can do is change settings and get a new look at things. I hope the staff at YNH find some answers. In the meantime, I will keep you and your entire family in my prayers.

I hope that everything is in order now that you have transferred to a new hospital. It’s really hard to celebrate the holidays where there’s someone missing in the family and there are others who need your support for them. My prayers for your son in law.

@BelleStarr Oh why the delay in the diagnosis? I guess they can finally come up with one inthe coming days so the proper treatment can be given to him.
