Monday mornings are the best. At least for some things. If you read my previous discussion you know that a visit to a nearby lake was stymied by the sheer volume of other people making use of one of this area's beautiful recreation sites. This morning, though, it was a different story. My daughter and I pulled into the parking at 7:20 or so and only one of the many parking spots was actually occupied. We drove down to the water’s edge to unload our kayaks and within a few minutes were paddling over mirror-smooth water. The air was mild and the voyage to a nearby island was short and easy. We like hanging out on the island during the summer. It’s one of the few places we can turn our golden retriever loose and not have to worry about her running off or bothering other people. After swimming around the island a few times and playing with a very happy dog we spent a little more time paddling and paid a visit to yet another peaceful island. Two-and-a-half hours of peace and quiet in the great outdoors. We only saw two other boats the entire time we were out on the lake. One was a fisherman lingering in the shallows along the edge and the other was towing a water skier on a distant stretch of open water. Monday mornings get a bad rap. Mine was very much enjoyed!
