Almost Done

The bonus child who has been living with us since January will be moving out during the first week of August. I wanted to give her a going away gift and decided that a quilt would be the perfect choice.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a finished quilt that would do (all of my finished items that aren’t tagged for someone specific are either holiday quilts or baby quilts) so last month I dug into my fabric stash and made a plan to put together a quick quilt.
Some people can make a quilt in a weekend. I’m not one of those people. It took me a week-and-a-half to cut the fabric and to piece together the flimsy and another week-and-a-half to force feed it to my Brother in order to secure the layers together. Finishing the edge added another two days. And it had been waiting patiently to be washed (I used washable markers to mark my quilting lines that looked rather unsightly) until I could get some colour grabbers to makes sure none of the dye would transfer to the white sections.
All it lacks is a label. Hopefully, I will be able to finish that either this evening or tomorrow and then another hurry-up project will be off of my to-do list.

I think she will. She was thrilled with the personalized keyfob I made for her several months back.

@SophiaMorros She has excellent taste, that was what first caught my eye, I love both green (turquoise) as well as purple together.

@Juliaacv I had to laugh this morning when @Morleyhunt shared a photo of a quilt on Facebook that was turquoise and purple triangles.

I have to give my daughter credit for the purple and turquoise borders. That was her suggestion when I showed her the center blocks.

@kobesbuddy no. She's one of my daughters' friends who needed to put some space between herself and her mother (she just turned 21).

Thank you! Handmade gifts give me a chance to pray over the recipient while I'm working. It also allows me to give a gift of a value I couldn't otherwise afford.

@SophiaMorros And a lot of patience. I used to watch my Grandmother always working on a quilt. Now I have many of her quilts, thankfully.

I'm not sure much talent is really involved. Just a love of sewing and fabrics that has gotten lots of practice over the years.

@velvet53 I've started another quilt (something a little more complicated) and I have a numbe of garments on my to-do lost.
Currently sewing area is at sixes and sevens. We painted the walls today and everything is jumbled up in the middle of the room.

I've made some handmade items that were absolute garbage. Sometimes projects don't turn out right, sometimes I try to work beyond my abilities. But I do think that a well done handmade gift takes gift-giving up a notch!

The first quilt I started took me 27 years to finish . I choose a simple pattern and used a roll of six inch strips of batik to save me the time of choosing individual fabrics.
And I quilted it by machine. So I took lots of shortcuts.

That is beautiful! I'm glad your young friend will appreciate all the time and work you put into it. Homemade quilts are such treasures, especially if you know who made them. I have several from my grandmother, my mother in law, and her mother.

I have the one my mother gave me as a wedding gift. It's in tatters. I also freed one from her stash of quilts when she passed away a few years ago.
I also have a couple that my sister made for me .

It's gorgeous and did I miss something? Your pic looks like my friend Joanne and then I see you're from NC and now I see you make quilts too. The only discrepancy is your name, maybe. Unless this is the new you and neither name is yours.
Am I confusing you or an I on the right page or maybe I should say pattern? Yep, I'm right. I went looking to see if Morley stopped by and say your conversation with Julia. I'm glad you're back with whatever name you want to use.
I'm not around quite as much as I used to be, although more recently I have been here more.
