Getting Old Sucks

You know, it used to be that the old shopping list used to consist of the normal fare like toilet paper, eggs, milk, bread, toothpaste, and all of the usual fare.
These days the list has grown to include things like Benefiber, Dulcolax, ibuprofen, Tylenol, Kerasol, and of course there are the blood pressure medications, more vitamin supplements, and whatever else.
I am sure the list will grow as time goes on.
Of course there are also more frequent doctor's visits, and there are those mornings you wake up and discover parts of your body that you never knew existed that are now hurting...
Getting old sucks.

I stopped taking vitamin and mineral supplements when I read once that a scientist had shown that a reasonable way of eating was better. But yes, I keep around Ketoprofen and other meds for pain. Walking a bit is better for joints though.

Yeah, walking is something I actually want to start doing again. I never walked much in the past, but it's been forever since I HAVE taken a walk. As I get older I HAVE to be less sedentary for sure. As for vitamin supplements, there are some things I do not eat (like fruit), and so without them I am definitely missing out on something I probably need.

@porwest The doctors have told me to start with a 10 minute walk and do more as I can. I don´t mind much walking but stairs are terrible. Do you like veggies? I like fruit but I don´t eat it as I´m lazy.

Yep, at 46 the fun is just beginning for you. Welcome to the big slide down the hill. Stay active. My former rheumatologist always preached that walking is the best exercise. That is easy to do unless you have pain in knees and hips. Take care of yourself so you can hang with us seniors a bit longer.

Well, luckily my knees and hips are fine. I have been talking about starting walking again...unfortunately I have only so far been talking about it. But I really need to try to get out walk at least a few times a week. It's in the works. Slow but sure. I should get on this regiment at least by the time I turn 50.

I beg to differ. I'm 70 and to date the only problem I've had so far is with my left eye. Last year I had a small hole in the retina which a talented surgeon repaired and I'm healing very well and soon I will have a cataract removed to improve my vision. Other than that I have no ailments so I take no meds and I only go to doctors IF there's a real problem ..... if I break a leg or something then yeah. Oh, I will take a vitamin C tablet but that's the only supplements I care to put in this old carcass.

For me it is. I have very badly injured shoulders so that is hard to begin with and am limited but only do things for my cat and myself and when I overdo things I feel it and feel so old and walk like an old lady. I will be 69 next week.

Oh I can relate to that. Although I am not yet in the senior years yet but I am already feeling some of them slowly but surely. For now I am still able to recover from it but eventually I feel that the pains here and there will become more frequent as I grow nearer to that point.

I did not mean to laugh at this comment...but I must admit I did. The way it was written suggests that I was being sucked by something. The image of something or someone sucking on me just struck my funny bone. BUT, I DID get your meaning, and I think I agree with it if I have it right.
