Lonely House

The thing about a big house is you can feel twice as lonely as a small one. Today my dad left for a seminar and my grandparents decided to go to their old house to tend to some matters. My brother is deployed and travelling around Japan while my sister is in Manila. So there are just 4 people in the house. My mum, me, our house help and our working student. It wasn’t so lonely around dinner as we were all in one table. But now that the 2 workers have retreated to their rooms my mum and I can feel the lonely vibe. I like the peace and quiet but I feel like it’s too quiet.

In small apartment people also can be lonely.

That is true but seeing so much space where people used to sit and laugh is a bit disheartening. Unlike in a small apartment where you are used to not having so many people fit in where you kind of expect it. Also a small apartment tends to bring people together in one area as there’s not much space so more human interactions in that sense.

@mrki444 Well that is true I guess I’m just not used to seeing the house so empty and quiet at this time of day. I feel isolated. When I feel like this in Australia I go out and hang out with friends but here I can’t because we live in the mountains.

Before when I was a kid, I wanted to have a big house so that my Brothers and their Families can still live with us. But too bad we only have a medium house with two rooms, my parents room was given to my 2nd Brother for his family to live. They just live beside us. And we live where most of out neighbors are our relatives. So never a dull moments here around.

It is a nice setup you have. It’s nice living with family but it can get chaotic and dramatic at times too. Living close to family is the best solution. You still get privacy and recluse but you can visit them anytime.

@JustBhem But that’s how we Filipinos are. There was a documentary blaming our close family ties for our lack of financial stability. Because we tend to shoulder everyone’s burden. So we can’t invest for ourselves. Some even were unable to marry because too busy providing for the family even to the last niece and nephew.

@flapiz That’s the disadvantages of the setup. Sometimes my 2nd Brother used to have his kids stay here to eat and knowing us, we sometimes have issues with food. Chaotic really.

I wish your boyfriend would stop playing video games and pay more attention to you especially when times get lonely...

@Bullshark It’s the time of week when he goes to Valence to watch everything in the cinema. I’d rather he does this than be always indoors playing video games.

@flapiz A lot of people go to bed early here in the country. I can't sleep when it is still daylight outside. No way. That's just too early.

it means you have a value of family and as we daily do dinner together and even one person missing still we feel their absence. lots of people live in your home and its great to see that taking dinner together. yes, we need space for relaxation but not much space.

That would be much heavy on the budget I suppose. I could just imagine how it will be more lonely when I leave for the UK.

I generally like being left alone but I don’t like the feeling of being alone in such a big space. The space puts emphasis on my aloneness.

@flapiz I work at home during the night and at that time many things are heard, but I have become accustomed.
