An update on our kangaroos

I haven’t written much about the kangaroos on our place recently. We still have a lot that spend most of their time on our 18 acres. Some still panic when we drive through but some are more accepting of the noises that come with our presence. When we first came to live here, they would head for the bush but now they often opt to hop (I like that – opt to hop) into the middle of the paddock rather than head for the bush.
We went down to work in the shed yesterday and in the photo you can see the group that were feeding nearby. By the bare trees, you can also tell that it’s winter here.

@JudyEv actually from the photo it makes me want to walk right up to them and shake their hands but I am sure they would not appreciate that

That's pretty awesome that you have so many roos that visit your property. I still think of them as giant, overgrown rats though. haha

@JudyEv I just look at those tails and the only thing I can think of at that point is "giant rats." haha

I guess they like whatever is on your property. Around here it is deer although you don't see a big group like that typically. The most you will see is 3 or 4 at a time..but one time while camping years ago, we saw an entire meadow of them...maybe 40 or 50.

critters're funny like that - love yer 'opt to hop', lol. sort'a reminds me 'f the feral cats here. sometimes they'll scatter like rats when i open the door 'n other times they'll be right'n the walkway'n jest lay there 's ya step o'er 'em. they seem to know that'cher place's a respite. that'cha don't mind their presence. how wonderful to've gotten a pic 'f 'em all together like that :).
'tis mid summer here'n i could 'nly hope my grass'd be that green, lol.

@crazyhorseladycx We do like to see it. We always take care to disturb them as little as possible - but now sometimes we almost feel miffed if they ignore us. Some people are never happy, are they?

I guess in the outback more people eat it. And you can buy it in butcher shops from time to time. It has quite a strong, gamey taste.

While we're not too close or making too much noise, they don't worry too much now which is great.

They like to feed on the grass that is in the paddocks.

I love to see an actual one... We don't have them here... A kangaroo with a baby in her pouch.
