It's too expensive for me because I'm broke, lol... But actually, I just got a magazine that shows the launch price of video game systems dating back to the Magnavox Odyssey (1972). It also shows the price the system would be after today's inflation added into it. The Neo Geo (1990) was released at $650!!! And after adding inflation, it ends up being $1,012!!! And the 3DO (1993) was released at $700 ($986 after inflation). Sega Saturn (1995) was $399 ($533 after inflation). Every game system that has been released after the Magnavox has been $200 or more when released. Just think about paying $300 for a Mattel Intellivison. Or $400 for the Sega Saturn. That's a lot of money for very little. Now think about everything you're getting with the PS3, and you realize the price is very reasonable... Reasonable but not very affordable, especially with the economy today. It's hard to shell out $600 for something that's not necessary. I don't think I know anyone who has $600, plus another $150 or so just for a couple games and controller, to spare. And with the 360 only being $400, I think PS3 could be in trouble. $200 is a huge difference for two systems without a whole lot of differences. Anyone who read all of this is awesome! =)

Hell yeah it's expensive! And it sucks too. Trust me on this when I say the Wii because not only is it like so much smaller, so much funner, and so much better, it's so much cheaper. And yeah so the PS3 graphics are better but the controls don't vibrate, you can't play PS2 games on it, and the R2 and L2 buttons are weird! Wii is much much cool! I have actually lost weight playing it. The games are cool and they are same price as before, 50 bucks. The Wii is also beating the PS3 in sales and the 360. All controls are wireless, the classic one too, you just have to connect it to the numchuck remote. I got Need For Speed Carbon, Call Of Duty 3, and Metal Slug along with Wii sports, it comes with it already. It also plays Gamecube games. Their also coming out with different colors for the Wii. Do it as a favor to me if you're thinking of buying one.. don't get the wii!!!

"In the ceremony of opening of Tokyo Game Show, on September 22, Ken Kutaragi, president of Sony Computer Entertainment, announced, for the surprise of the presents, that the basic model of PlayStation 3 would have his/her reduced price in Japan.
In the occasion, the model that brings hard disk of 20GB and without readers of card of memory - but it won of turn the audio exit and digital video HDMI - he/she had his/her reduced price of 62.790 yens (US$ 524) for 49.980 yens (US$ 417).
The supresa is that stores online is also selling with discount the complete model of PlayStation 3. in spite of not having his/her price announced officially at the country, PlayStation 3 complete cost now what would be the initial price of the basic, in other words, 62.790 yens (US$ 524).
As some reports of shopkeepers, Japan can receive a little more than the 100 thousand apparels announced by Sony. In two weeks, the archipelago can have about 150 thousand units in the shelves, and the proportion between the cheapest model and the most expensive will be balanced, in other words, each one of them will occupy half of the total lot.
PlayStation 3 arrives at Japan on November 11. In the USA, the prices will be of US$ 499 and US$ 599, respectively, and the premiere date is marked for November 17."

The price tag is definitely pretty high, but I feel I can justify it. To myself, at least. The HD attraction may be outdated by release time, but I don't have anything else that can play high def right now. It will probably be at least 2-3 years before another system comes out so by year, the price goes down (about $200/year). And finally, PS3 is going to be back compatible all the way back to PS1, so there are TONS of games for it! I guess there is the online playing component as well, but that never interested me.

Is the PS3 expensive? Yes. Is it worth it, when you concider the reputation Sony has in recent years? Likely.
The only good thing about the PS3, EXCEPT its price tag, is the techlogical advances. Sony has truly outdid themselves. But coming down to it, I think that $699 is too much to pay for about something that's as superior as the PS3. But we may never know until next month, now do we?
Also, keep in mind that the PS3 has a lot of competition. The Nintendo Wii, set for release in November 19, and the Xbox 360, which has a fresh release 5 months ago and with people already prasing it. I think that if the PS3 is to ever come on top during the holiday season, which I seriously doubt right now, it will be hot around the first two weeks of launch. Also, another point: Like the short-lived PS2 supply scare, I think that Sony will plan another supply scare to jump up sales for those critical two weeks. But knowing Sony, they will have another tatic up their sleeves. Doing a supply scare will bring some unwanted attention as well as a ticked-off fan base. But this is just all in my head. Who knows what Sony will cook up? But what I do know is this: That if the PS3 is to be sucessful, they should put their big-name games to the table, and that's how you get sucessful in the game business.

omg that is way to much. I would just get a computer with fast HD,video card with loads of memory. Most computers you play games on surpass consoles.

I think it's way to much. If you are going to have to charge that much, I say put some of the stuff as extras. Especially the stuff that aren't nessesites. And one of the versions of Gran Turismo is going to cost 900 DOLLARS, well if you buy all the cars and stuff like that. Which is ridiculous.
