"Thanks to the Interstate Highway System, it is now possible to travel across the country from state to state and not see anything." Charles Kuralt We travel from Ontario, Canada to Florida every couple of years and I HATE EVERY SINGLE MINUTE of it. I don't know the numbers, but my daughter and husband love it. Maybe it's just me?? I am constantly glancing at the clock, which is probably the worst thing to do. I run out of things to do after the first half hour. The quote above is spot on. There is NOTHING to look at until you actually get to Florida!! Are you a road trip hater or lover... or maybe in between?? If you love it, please tell me what you do to take care of boredom!! I run out of ideas extremely quickly!

Lots to see. Seek out the beauty of nature. The terrain is different. Mountains, hills, and you end up in sandy Florida with beautiful beaches. Wake up and enjoy the gift God has given us all.

@Hate2Iron That actually sounds like some of the local highways in LA and MS. They are all lined with pine trees, miles and miles and miles.

If it wasn't for just dreary highways and my lack of patience it wouldn't be so bad. It simply all looks the same until the last day of the trip and yes, things do begin the change after that.

My son and I took a road trip last year from Chicago, Illinois to Deadwood, South Dakota. We had a blast, we talked, we sang out loud to the music we were listening to, we were in awe buy the landscape, we stopped at interesting places along the way. I love road trips with the right people.

@Hate2Iron Yes, that whole area is beautiful out there. We had a great trip and it was great being out there away from the city.

I hate long trips, no matter if they are road trips or plane trips. Staying 12 hours in a plane was almost more boring.

Yes, sitting in a plane for more than a couple of hours is nearly as bad... the only saving grace is the people watching!

@Hate2Iron People become horrible after a few hours in a plane and if you need to go to the toiled after 8 hours they are a total mess, you cannot believe how dirty people are.

I love road trips. We usually try and take the most scenic roads.

I think that would make all the difference. We simply have to get there as quick as possible as we have a time limit of how long we can stay before having to turn back!

It's love and hate for me. Love when I get someplace and start seeing and doing things. Hate for the endless drive to get someplace.

But after seeing the place you really want to go you'll feel relax and after that you'll be lazy to go home because of endless drive? @JohnRoberts

For me, if I see my loved ones happy while we're on road trip that's already enough reason for me to be happy also.

When I was doing the driving... which I stopped, I was never bored for obvious reasons. But my longest trip which was to my mom and dads, was only 3 hours. I wouldn't return home until the following day. Even then, THAT was enough for me!

@Hate2Iron lol, i used to drive to my dad's, 'twas 21 hours. used to drive my young'uns a tad o'er the edge 's they constantly wished to stop 'n get a motel. when a passenger, i jest take books to read, books to color (yup, i 'dore colorin'), paper'n pen ('n case a brilliant idea comes to mind). some folks jest don't travel well :)

I have not been on a road trip in years. I used to navigate but now we have GPS. The last road trip, I spent talking to my son and his girlfriend.

@Hate2Iron I tried using my phone but that makes me carsick, especially in the back seat.

Our major roads can be very boring too. We often take the back roads - the scenic route as we call it - bu of course you don't want to be doing that if you have miles and miles to travel. Audio books pass the time quite well but you might need your own device unless everyone is happy with the choice.

Well, I like to do part of the driving. Then a little rest, then a little reading. I love watching the scenery. Farms, towns, watching for wildlife. My body gets stiff and sore though.

I can read for about 5 minutes before I start to feel sick.. I actually start to count cars that pass by us. I have actually created a game out of it. Now how bad is that lol!
