Have You Ever Had Yellow Watermelon?

Since I just posted about watermelons, I started thinking about yellow meat watermelons. Have you ever had one of those? They are very sweet and the sweetest watermelon I have ever tasted. I haven't had one in a very long time. I would say it has been at least 20 years. I need to see if I can find one because I would love to have one now. I wonder why they are not more popular since everyone loves watermelon? This sweeter version should be just as popular as the red meated watermelons. Photo: Pixaby, public domain

It's rare. What's common in our place the red watermelon. I have eaten it and it's very sweet.

They used to be fairly popular here in the southern United States. Now you hardly ever see them.

@Nakitakona I don't know. You used to see them all the time and now hardly ever. It may be a situation where the seed is too costly to justify a profit?

@kareng Why? What's wrong? The farmers are no longer planting them, don't they?

Interesting on the shapes. I always assumed that it was just different varieties.

@kareng some varieties 're better'n others, but those round'uns 're most oft sweeter whilst the 'typical' watermelon shapes 're more gritty 'n not's sweet.

Now that I've thought about them, I want one. Of course, none to be found around here locally. The farmers around here need to get busy..lol.

@DianneN For an area that watermelons are easily raised, you would think we would have yellow meat watermelons here.

They are delicious. To me they are sweeter than the red meat watermelons and I've never gotten one that isn't sweet such as happens with the red meat watermelons every now and then.

I prefer the red one because in terms of yellow watermelon prices are more expensive.

That is true here in the US as well. They are sweeter than the red meat watermelons though.

Yes, if I remember correctly the meat is not as firm as the red meat watermelons. @andriaperry can you verify this or add your thoughts?
