What Did You Do For Your Summer Respite?

I know a lot of people don't do something special during the summer but I have for many years because when my sister and I were visiting our elder father years ago, he said at the dining table: “I want you two girls go up into the attic and find a tent, and all you will need and take these children camping.
My sister Elaine was visiting Dad from DC, and I was visiting from Canada and between us we had five children that summer that had never camped with us yet...My oldest was not with me, she had something going on in Canada that summer...
We did what our Dad said and packed both of our cars and headed north. It turned out to be the best thing ever!
We took the farthest site in the campground and it became a favorite on the Adirondack rocky river for years. And we continued camping at the State Camp in Wells NY for years...
But not this year. I was sad that there would be no Camp Insanity this summer. Life gets in the way...as we age, my sister was not well, her husband was not well and we sadly said we will skip this summer...looking forward to next summer and fingers crossed we will be there next year. Age can be a trial...
My daughter suggested I go to her place for a couple of weeks. I did that and loved every day. My daughter lives in the boonies, she has a large yard and a cute home, and 5 chickens that wander around her house. She has a huge garden and bee hives...
We went swimming a couple of days in Provincial Parks, went into the cities near her home and found interesting things to visit.
My daughter made my summer fun and I appreciate that.

25 years is too long, I hope you get a chance to visit someplace you haven't been too and enjoy it. it doesn't have to be week, a day trip is fine with me. I hope you enjoy a few ASAP.

That's great that you at least got to spend time at your daughter's home to break up your summer. I had forgotten that you used that in our past life for your username: camp insanity.
I've read many of your camping stories on here I don't remember whether I read them over there too but I forgot about your stories being related to your previous name.
At least you two heeded your dad's suggestion and took your families to the woods to make memories all these past years. I hope it works out again for everyone next year too. It's hard when we have to stop out traditions especially the ones spanning generations.
I was off work to have my second knee surgery on the second knee. I started back to work today for four hours. My knee did fine my back not so much.

I really missed Camp Insanity this summer. The name was given to our camping the first year when I living in Canada, and my sister living in DC, didn't know NY got rid of dumps...no more dumping in NY, but the bears were very hungry and were in our camp every night. That happened the year the dumps disappeared but since then, we rarely see a bear. And if we do they are not looking for food, they are just on trails to who knows where ...

Sorry you couldn't do you family camping trip but thankful you were still able to spend time with your daughter.
Mike and I use to take day trips, just pack some snacks and drinks, get in the car and go and just enjoy the day and one another. We haven't been able to do that the past few years as his dad's health has gotten steadily worse. His Mom will be 87 in two weeks and his dad 91 in a month. She is in fairly good health and we are thankful for that. We just don't go too far for too long because we don't know when she will call needing us.

I don't like being in the hot sun, but where I live we are covered in trees so its cooler with shade. And living in Canada is cooler than India, I have heard how hot it gets there. Our AC is on when its too hot to handle..
