Why do people leave dogs and children in a hot cars?

There are so many reports of people leaving dogs and children in hot cars that certainly everyone here has heard about these issues.
We have made some reports when noticing these things and one time it was an adult with Alzheimer's Disease left behind. The husband said the wife was just too confused to take into the store. What? So there she sat in the heat.
Animals, children, adults all deserve to be taken care of properly. Have you had these things happen where you live?

because they're too stupid to be entrusted with a living being.
yea, some woman was arrested a couple of weeks ago for leaving 2 dogs in a car.
the cops and fire department up here don't take kindly at all to that.

It is such a hurtful thing to happen to a living creature. How could some be so uncaring.

I have never had a problem as I have been aware of the danger. I think the problem is that some people don't realize the danger.

Not here, but I have heard a lot of it happen in the US. Probably it is because people have more cars. Who knows!? But I have never heard of a child here dying from heat.

@PatZAnthony It is a shame. I hope the culprit ends up in jail for a long time. I can´t buy the sentence 'I forgot'.

It is a mess here but guessing it happens everywhere. Are people so ignorant they don't see the harm they do to their pets or family members!

@PatZAnthony Some have somehow 'forgotten' they have a child in the back. It's unbelievable really.

Some might think they will just run in for a quick minute but you know the family or pet is suffering during that time @sophie09

seen it too many times. Can not understand how a mother can forget her child is in the car? I either took mine right by my side or left them at home with a sitter. As for animals I wonder why they are not just left at home ? it's crazy

@PatZAnthony I still can not figure it out when you leave your car don't you look around to make sure you have everything? makes no sense and I find it hard to believe someone can be that dizzy. Should not be driving in the first place. Dangerous to everyone.

Read some instances where the mother did not usually have the child along and simply forgot. What a nightmare! How does one continue to breathe after that.

@PatZAnthony I honestly don't like to judge people, as I wouldn't want it done to me, but I just can't imagine forgetting my own child. :( You're right though, it is a terrible thing to experience. :(

@tammys85 We have read about several instances when this happen with children and the parents had honestly forgotten their child. One person thought another person had taken the child out of the care. That has to be a nightmare.

@PatZAnthony If the alarms that they sell there really isn't any excuse for even one to die in a car.

It seems we hear about these things on a weekly basis and I can't wrap my head around it. We understand sometimes people make a mistake, but too many seem to be by choice @BelleStarr

Pat there isn't a day goes by that the news doesn't have a story about a child or dog dying in a car or a child drowning in a home swimming pool! I don't care if you have to put a bell around them--do something so you know where they are every minute!!

Yes @GreatMartin it is heart breaking to hear about. A buzzer of some kind on a child (or pet) that goes off when you are too far away is available and probably everyone should have these!

@PatZAnthony One of the car markers recently said they have 'something' to solve the problem--I hope they don't wait and charge a fortune for whatever it is!

It breaks my heart to hear about the children and pets that were killed this summer in cars. I can't even imagine how anyone would just forget pets and children in a car... I don't think any of this happened in my area, I heard about it happening in the US via Facebook and the US television.

It is so awful. How does any parent (or pet owner) recover from such a thing.

From what we understand, these has been instances where the person usually would not have that child or their dog with them and forgot. Terribly sad.

We called the store and told them what was happening, gave car info and sat with person. Said we would call cops in a few minutes if no one came. Husband returned, upset with us, upset with security, but we have services here that will help so you can shop OR DELIVER what you need so person not left alone.

Another question I always ask is why the need to take your dog with you in the car on a hot summer day? Common sense is not so common is it?

They should leave the air conditioner on in the car and keep the car on. Atleast for pets and adults like that. A child is no excuse. Sometimes when i stay in the car i make sure the air conditioner is on. I would never be sitting in the heat.
