Yepper, got me a turnip last month, it's a huge one and rather than cook it I stuck it in a pot of soil and now I have greens. I love turnip greens.
Now I'm not certain that these are the greens I'd wanna eat but I'm gonna cook up a mess of them leaves to see what they'll taste like.
Tomorrow I'll get my package of turnip seeds and potting soil so that I can start growing turnip greens for my own consumption.
Does anybody know anything about growing turnip greens indoors? I know they need sun but is there anything else I need to know?
That Ally's in the photo sporting my reading glasses, she's my lil superdoggie.

I don't know if turnips grow inside, It wont hurt to try it. Turnip greens are delicious. I used to grow them in my garden. They are easy to grow in the garden. When the leaves grow big enough, pick and boil in a little water add a little salt and olive oil. I said a little water but I add more because I like the juice that's left in the pot. Bake a pan of corn bread to go with it. I might try growing some on my deck.

I like turnip greens but have never grown turnips inside or out--I would suspect you need big container--

Most here prefer spinach or broccoli @Tampa_girl7 I wish I could eat broccoli but it doesn't like me and I don't care for the flavor of spinach.

I don't know that any of the farmers round here even know what they are. But there's plenty of jalapenos, chili peppers, corn, cilantro, broccoli and spinach. Oh and tomatoes.
My neighbor is from Guadalajara and has tried unsuccessfully to grow some kinds of gourds that he likes but it's just too dry here.

I was going to mention nice specs there. I hope she had time to get her reading in, lol.
I would think that info would be online. I've had my first turnips this summer but I'm not interested in the greens nor growing them.
I have a hard enough time growing basil in my house.

I've never really heard of cooking turnip greens. All I know about turnips is that they're nice in soup and that cattle are sometimes fed on them when they're kept in barns (the cattle not the turnips) during really cold winters.

It is a favorite southern dish. Dad used to love them and mom would cook them with things like hamhocks. Sadly the area I live in is not familiar with the dish so I have to try to grow my own but I'll have to grow them indoors because it gets too hot for them outside. Maybe it will work, I really hope so.
